Rivnuts definitely don't seem to last long in larger AC units,they are actually a constant PITA.
Particularly on compresser hold down bolts where there is constant vibration.
But that could be because the manufacture is not using the correct type for the application.
We have used them here and there and had no issues,but need the correct type for the job,particularly when it comes to the metal thickness.
Same can be said for a boring rivet. The correct material rivet, exact hole size to limit movement and maintain tension, correct rivet length to also maintain tension, the correct number of rivets for the application, and the correct usage sees them work successfully in many use cases where the need to remove a component is not required. Don’t fly if you don’t like rivets [emoji2]
When you look into rivets and aircraft you come to respect the little guys - if installed and applied correctly.
**** me this is out of hand, rivet rivnut, it's in the name, it's the same!
Rivnuts are great, if you buy the right ones and the right installation tool. The one I used was magical. But was $1000 today's money. The hand held unit I used was over $400. The pack of alloy rivets was $8.50 , needed two packets, changed my mind allot.
Doesn't matter I built this this to be permanent. If they come loose. I'll re do them but seeing as though there are about 130 3/16 rivets in my rack I reckon I'll be dead before that happens. Also the standard hold downs are useless in comparison. The rivets I put in are directly under the hold down point rather then on the side. Where the clamps are. We could talk about levers etc but really!!!! Rivets are great for this application. I feel sorry for John who asked a simple question and then had to watch a bush fire take place
After finally evaluating all the helpful comments and advice, I bought Bosch BD1421 slotted rotors for $308.43, and DBA 2203SP for $99.95 for front. Rear Rotors were done under warranty so I have left them alone. Car has done 82K and about 50K towing a 2.4T van, so will see how these go. Still have about 10K left in front pads but if the Corona bans get lifted I will be off on a trip to Perth via some interesting back roads uptop end and back home bottom end. So I know i will be needing to replace the parts at some stage soon, if not while I travel. I always like to order in advance so that I have the parts on hand if something should happen.

A rivnut is great for something that requires removal at some point in the future. A rivet is a cheap and good solution to permanently connect two things together. Simple. Can we start a thread on this? [emoji2]Quote:
