Well, it was a near thing, looked verrrry seriously at a new Patrol Ti-L, seduced by the upcoming cost of maintenance on the D4 and overall outlay to get into the Patrol. A new car with 5 year unlimited km warranty and some nice features, engine, drive train and creature comforts. Also some features missing that I thought should have been there in that market segment, also a carrying capacity that is not as good as the D4, although a bigger load space, but 3rd row seats that don't fold flat, the fuel thing is a non-issue (my next vehicle will likely be a petrol anyway) and after a couple of extended test drives it's a nice place to be. In the end though so is the D4, a nice place to be that is, and so I will do the required maintenance and enjoy it for another 5 years at least. I sat down and did a spec sheet between Patrol, D4, D5 and Defender, eye opening to say the least just how advanced LR products are, particularly the new Defender when it lands, but they are expensive. Defender X at $148,000 is right up there, even a HSE with some options will be $125,000+, similar numbers with the D5, so the Patrol at around $90,000 was worth a look.
Having said all that, so what happened to my D4 today, it dodged a bullet, is about to get a mid-life makeover and is still loved.
