I wonder who thought of the cable (ripcord?) for when it all goes wrong. Seems like the cable #1 needs another cable (#2?) for when cable #1 doesn't work when you need to pull it because something else hasn't worked.

    It does.

Kept me amused for a few minutes looking at the UK thread where someone has dared to flip the cover off the module and actually fix the problem that caused the problem, which couldn't be rectified by pulling the cable you pull when there is a problem because there was a problem with that.

What happened to your D3/D4 today?

Or it just works if looked after… What happened to your D3/D4 today?
10 years on, tens of thousands of kilometres of dirt, bull dust, sand and mud.
    Not a single problem.

The drive through mode off-road etc are extremely useful. Many don’t know some of the functionality. And many aren’t maintained - even by dealers (check next time)

As for the Poms - they also crap out conventional park brakes on a regular occasion when not maintained so I take a lot of their maintenance issues with a grain of salt.

Same for me - no issues.

Also, unlike the UK you can work on these things without the rust and seized fastener issues.

Try pulling the handbrake fully up on a gravel road at 100kmh with the accelerator flat to the floor.
I have and it immediately cuts the power and brings the car to a stop in a straight line with no wheel lockup at all.
It is a safety feature my wife is aware of as I was driving and I got her to pull the lever up and hold it.
I adjust it regularly and after 265000km have had no problems and consider it a good safety feature of the car.

So you’re aware, when you pull up the handbrake when you’re moving, it’s using the ABS system that’s slowing you - it’s not the handbrake drum that’s slowing you down.

It appears this is key. I can’t ever remember reading a post which said “I adjust it regularly and it still broke down on me”. When I adjusted mine the first time it was way out of whack, after being religiously serviced by somewhere that should know better. It was either mis-adjusted, or not touched. One of the two.

Until the last few km/h. Then the drums engage.
If you continue to hold the lever up after it stops the vehicle the engine will shut down.

You can also hold it in the engaged position when offroad and get another benefit What happened to your D3/D4 today?

Tombie, you have me very intrigued with this added off-road benefit 😊. I have tried googling what it might be but can't find it. Care to elaborate on what it is? I'm on the edge of my seat with anticipation 😁.

    Cheers
