Would have been (and was) designed by private enterprise who, like everything else they make, is made from the cheapest materials and of the cheapest quality, to ensure they have return business (spare parts) and in the process make the biggest PROFIT they possibly can.
If you make products out of plastics that are subject to 'stress' .. eg. EPB and plastic air intakes ... they are going to fail. That's the plan.

I got the dreaded P0087 error today and the car became a complete slug. Pulled over and cleared the code and back to normal. I then swung by Barbagallo’s and paid a fortune for a fuel filter in the unlikely hope that’s the issue. I guess this time was coming - LPFP and HPFP likely on their way out.
Filter changed. Fingers crossed.

Will watch this outcome with considerable interest.
Given I have a MY16 with only 55K km on the clock, much of my maintenance over the next 2 years is going to be time based, rather than km.
This led me to the thought - is HPFP etc almost purely km based, or is there a time based element to be factored in for maintenance/replacement requirements?

It appears to be a combination of wear, diesel quality, contamination and fortune. There appears to be a higher probability of HPFP failure, but like the crankshaft it's a case of "spin the wheel and see if it gets you home today". At least with the HPFP you can limp home in second gear.
Gday All,
Getting the D3 ready for 6 weeks travel at the end of the month so between yesterday and today changed the following
Engine oil and filter
Air cleaner and pollen filter
Fuel filter
Transfer case oil
Front and rear diff oil
Gearbox filter and oil
Also Clean Y piece and the sensor ( MAP ?? ) and remove the front bumper
Tomorrow hopefully fit bullbar, roofrack, and a few other bits and pieces.
