About 4 litres is lost when you pop the coolant fitting out.

Best bit about removing the wheel arch liner is removing half a tree of leaves stuck behind it.
It's on my list as well to do turbo hoses, thx for the write up and pictures. Interesting point on the coolant fitting.

I’ve not seen anything for the 3L, and the 3L doesn’t suffer the same hose issues as the 2.7 from what I’ve seen.

Agree DJ, but all my turbo hoses bar the lower one from the intercooler are 11 years old. Still look ok though coolant hoses are the same age, the outlet in the V is only 3y old. I have not had any of the crumbling plastic or wiring shroud issues, so there must gave been a material upgrade along the way I guess.

Can absolutely confirm the two smaller turbo hoses showed no sign of imminent failure and are a major project to replace on their own. This is odd as the final long pipe to the intake is guaranteed to split and need replacement. Must be because it is longer and swells more.

The coolant fitting however justified the job as this is something you need to be worried about. The plastic degrades to some crumbly chalky substance.

5 hours and you could have done the entire engine What happened to your D3/D4 today?

Tombie I wish I had your confidence and expierence.

I've worked on my own cars for 45 years so not totally unfamiliar with them, I also have access to a 2 post hoist.

How long would you estimate it would take a first timer to do a body off and on?

Dazza on here is the guy to ask as he works on them all day.

I have no idea but I recon there will probably be a box full of bits and pieces left over that will take a few hours to sort out…

Depending on random parts installed as well (pays to give consideration when fitting accessories) between 2-2.5 off and same back on

Much easier than playing contortionist, and gives a clear picture of driveline for a good inspection or other tasks.

Step 1 is to become highly skilful at popping those black plastic grommets that hold the wheel arches and arch liner and have a bunch on hand as spares. Dazza does not faff with them he chisels them off and replaces with new. You can buy them in bulk on eBay.

    That would save an hour.

Or having the right trim clip removal tool helps, they don't break as often then...
