I've been working with GPS for >30 years. Started on boats in the very late 80s and on from there.

It's easier these days. We used to write our own tools that were always pretty application specific. These days the time-nuts write all sorts of clever software that will tell you pretty much everything that can be known from a $15 USB GPS receiver and make it freely available on the net, so all I have to do is run the software and report the results. The problem is my GPS receivers that report data are all dedicated to timing stuff, so I need to wait for a new toy to arrive to actually collect measurable data from inside the car.

Still, no job worth doing that isn't worth buying a new toy for!

Well. Tonight was the rears! That was fun.
Added some more crimson marks on the workshop floor looks like a murder took place atm

Finished it up, EAS back in normal mode and off for a drive.

Alignment is obviously out (that gets sorted at 14:00 today) however it still drives so nice! I remember now what it felt like when I picked it up from the dealer in 2011.

Smooth, supple and responsive. No more thuds over bumps.

Will give it a 1,500km test this weekend.

Tombie et al - what's your guestimate for the realistic time allowance for someone who's mechanically adept, but has never done the arms before, to do this themselves? I'm guessing 'about' a weekend, assuming no seized bolts etc? Any mega-specific tools required that I'm unlikely to have to hand? Thanks.

I don’t understand on the YouTube videos all the techs have both clean and unbloodied hands.

On even the most simple job my right hand looks like a triage ward in a US civil war amputation tent. Mixed in with copious grease and dirt. I find gloves either turn your hands to a sweaty mess and you lose a lot of touch.

If there is a zip tie edge or razor sharp item I will inevitably find this in the first few minutes to open up a nasty bleeder for the rest of the job.

My entire clothing must be left at back door also being completely soaked in blood oil and grease.

An easy weekend job.

A flex head 15mm ratchet spanner for top bolts.
12mm flare nut spanner to disconnect air lines.
Impact driver and 24mm and 19mm sockets
Couple of spanners to suit the bolts at the other end!
Chassis stands
Jack

Took me a full weekend to do upper and lowers, then I did wheel bearings all round as well. I use nitrile gloves, and with the right tools there's less chance of injury.

Got distracted and was a few k's late.
