What happened to your D3/D4 today?

It’s been a fun but tiring weekend.

Cannonball run to Adelaide, collecting gear from multiple places across the suburbs before heading to Victor Harbor for

Then up this morning, shake off the hangover and back in the D4 for the run back to Whyalla.

Total of 1008km in the D4 and a relaxing weekend.
(Sorry to those in Victor I didn’t catch up with)

    Did spot a nice Perentie

Another D4 in White with black accent and a few other LRs including “Fenda” spotted near Warland Park this morning.

I did manage to finally collect my EGR blanking plate run from Laser 3D. So the next project can kick off soon. (Yes there is a few spares available What happened to your D3/D4 today?)

What happened to your D3/D4 today?

    Interesting events today….
On the drive home yesterday the steering wheel shifted slightly left from its straight ahead position.

Now it was wheel aligned last Thursday, and torqued up.

Well…. Today it turns out ALL the lower bolts were below spec on torque and no amount of tightening could get 2 to go over 200nm.

Switched to the other side and tried to set them:
This was the result at 200nm - spec is 275nm What happened to your D3/D4 today?

So I walked home and got the genuine one that came out and that was fine.

Then we tried the rear bolt on same side.
No turning could make the adjustment move - the eccentric washer wouldn’t rotate…

It had just happily screwed the thread apart like cheese.

Now these bolts came in a Kit from the UK with their Premium Arms…. I wasn’t sure about going non-genuine but they assured me it would be ok.

Well - $230 later from LR Australia dealer with express freight… I’ll have genuine ones to go back in.
Then there’s the $105 for the next wheel alignment.

Must say I’m a bit peeved with my Optimal parts! Have emailed them and awaiting their response…

…and to think those kits claim they come with OEM bolts. Can’t trust anything these days.

Will be interesting to hear what the excuse given is from the seller.

What happened to your D3/D4 today?

A bunch of stuff arrived from Cambo today. Looking forward to installing the camper trailer camera splitter, Apple CarPlay, and Logic 7 speaker kit. Just have a couple of bits left to buy for the logic 7.

Question: my 2013 poverty pack D4 doesn’t come with a front camera but the Apple CarPlay kit has an RCA labeled “front camera input”. Can I buy a front camera, plug it in during the install and set something with the iid?

Had it been me I'm not sure it would have been only the bolts that snapped...

    Excuse received!!!

“These are OEM Bolt sets and we have no issues with these.
This is a classic case of the threads being lubricated which will effect the torque setting and then be over tightened.

    Kind Regards,
    Paul”

    Except - Bull****!

No lubricant used, as per photos sent the bolts are dry.

**** has done himself out of any future sales from me or my mates.

I’ve dropped the bolts to our NDT / Metallurgical lab for analysis…. Cannot wait to see the data from the tests.

While I didn’t have issue with them as they’re probably not torqued to spec, but they haven’t moved, I have heard others complain they’re not great. You’re not the first.

Another case of the term OEM meaning next to nothing.

All I received was simply reasons they fail, saying they never have issues with the bolts.

Well, I’ve since thrown $230 on Genuine bolts and express freight so I can get my vehicle back together and drivable.

No further ongoing support or offer of such from said supplier. So my future business will be headed elsewhere from now on.
