    Chasing Engine Rattle

Removed the water pump and top idler pulley on my 2014 Discovery 4 3.0 today in preparation for delivery of replacement items. Not confident this is going to resolve the problem as both items had little bearing play or are excessively noisy when spun by hand. This is a starting point chasing this issue however Kms and service life indicate that they are due for replacement.

Wondering if the fuel pressure faults i was getting are now fixed after replacing the very old fuel filter. 3 days of driving and no problems at all even after 5-6 hours of driving. Even fuel economy is better with 7.9L/100 heading to Brissy and back from the sunny coast. Fingers crossed.

Had the IID Tool logging each trips fuel rail pressure, fuel pump pressure, rpm, speed, throttle position, gear and manifold pressure expecting a fauly but no. Will say the butt cheeks were clenched driving through the tunnels expecting a Restrcited Performance fault

Absolutely a dirty fuel filter will cause that fault. Especially in your case it could be ancient.

    Keep your fingers crossed.

Next job is to fit the new oil cooler, plastic coolant outlet on side of block for good measure, coolant flush and new expansion tank.

A couple of weeks ago I had an issue with my aux battery system a quick call to Tim and 10mins of diagnosis and it was determined that my Optima had finally had its day. On Tim’s suggestion I purchased a Super Start Battery, did the modification to the battery tray (so I could fit the larger battery) made a new positive cable, fitted a new battery hold down clamp and ready to go again.

Id like to give out shout out to Tim, thanks for your assistance.

    Thanks again Paul.

Today I drove for 24.7KM after the trip computer said "0KM range left". Unfortunately the servo was 25KM up the road, so I had to walk up and buy a 5L container of diesel.
Put a total of 84.31L in the tank, so that's a new record for me.
