    What happened to your D3/D4 today?

    For those keeping up with LRTimes’ latest 2.7 engine rebuild what do you think about his fault detection of the malfunctioning timing ring?

    Pretty impressive to work that out I thought considering both a faulty aftermarket timing ring and inaccurate mounting tool.

    I’m very impressed and enjoy his videos. Funniest German I know and he knows his way around a Disco.

    One of the better channels out there.

    His wife makes the channel, without her it wouldn’t be what it is.

    Yes, the volume of content is unbelievable to produce a video each week and also do all the work.

    He never tires of it (yet).

    Nevertheless I saw that look of his will to live fading when it would not start. To then have to be pull out the transmission would send you over the edge. He’s so well set up now he’d be as fast as the best of them.

    Not many home mechanics would work that one out I don’t think. Very clever.

    Sunday arvo, water pump had started leaving a trail so in with the new pump, belt, belt tensioner, idler pulley and coolant outlet.
    Had coolant on hand but after looking at where you have to undo the hose to drain it plus the extra 10L i'd need since i have rear HVAC i'll do that over dads ramp.

    LRTimes is one of the few YouTube channels I wait for with baited breath. Christian is an amazing mechanic/machinist.

    It's funny you should mention Christian and Vera, I started watching them hoping to pick up some clues on my Ford Territory TDV6. I really got into it, so much so that I thought these Discoveries aren't too bad, so I've bought a D4 and will be selling the Territory.
    Christian's fault finding techniques are second to none, he claims he's not a mechanic but has an electrical background and you can see this with his use of an oscilloscope.

    well my d4 2016 has been sitting with a load of concrete blend on it, a week, I had a chuckle as i drove home at 90km/h on the flat in 8th , as I had read Cruiser 200 v8s will not hold 6th towing anything, mine is the 254hp 600 nm, Love driving it, this vehicle, just installing the hoist so's i can check out my mains etc

    ....so you intend dropping the sump and rolling new big ends and as many mains as possible???
    I've been thinking of doing same @ 200,000 klms just turned.

    sorry to steal thread, but since you mentioned 'cruisers, just read of an LC300 cruiser being written off due to rats eating a main wiring loom. New loom around 8-12 months ex Japan, no part number yet but Toyota quoting approx $12k for loom and labour also approx $12-14k.
    Owner has renta car thru insurance @ approx $100 a day for entire time car is off the road and due to potential unforseen expensive probs the insurance company wrote it off.
    Will probably sell it for a reasonably high price to a mechanic/workshop as a repairable w/off who'll do the repair when loom available.

    just want to look at the thrusts and mains, there maybe chances to roll this wee engine 500000km
    yes when you see these looms and stuff mind boggles
    on another note, we have a tdi Passat as our daily, well yesterday i left the key on, the batt went to 7 volts, i boost cranked it and it fired, but no turbo boost, the actuator solenoid for turbo gate solenoid fuse was blown, i replaced the fuse, started it, there was a huge bang and much acrid smoke and no cranking, i replaced start solenoid fuses and the bloody thing took off like a scalded cat, , weird, an actuator solenoid is 29 dollars, but why does it go like hell, think will just leave it
