The light beam only moves to the extent the car is bouncing…which is expected.

    So far..very happy / impressed.
Compared to spotties light bars are lighter and have a lower cog which is why they work using this method with minimal flex for all these methods that use a long horizontal tab. Spotties are too top heavy and need a very rigid mount a la bullbar.

I tried and it looks much better I think. The ideal solution would be to have a vertical bolt through the bumper. Like a rivnut

The child in me wants to move the round spotties up to the touring rack and go full Camel Trophy look.

It’s incredibly easy to get 5-10k repair bills and then the same again quite close and if you don’t know the ins and outs of these vehicles or done none of the major stuff at 250k kms it would be incredibly scary bottomless pit. Picking up a very cheap car you know you can sort out on the other hand is tempting.

There’s a reason 1hz 80 series LCs still get good money is complicated as an axe.

Because the costs of maintenance, repair and the complexity of parts are the same for a $20k 2013 D4 as they are for a $250k Defender Octa. And the 2013 D4 needs a lot more attention after 12 years.

Considering many of these are not an enthusiasts car but maybe the wife’s kid taxi and they are ringing up on the side of the road with a restricted performance message you can quickly understand how the love disappears when you meet Uncle Big Bill.

Indeed. And for those who are comfortable in assessing and configuring such vehicles for genuine 4WD use, there is still the known unknown of the real condition of the engine. If the TDV6 was a "bullet proof" engine, D4s would command incredibly high used values.

There’s a known unknown of a head on crash also so I put it in that basket.

Bit of a non sequitur there PerthDisco. That unknown is a function of being anywhere near a road. The TDV6 failures (from whatever cause) are impossible to detect or predict except perhaps by monitoring oil pressures and taking oil samples. Neither of which applies to assessing a used D4 no matter how well it was driven and serviced.

The Lion TDV6 engine is not the only reason, there are many other reasons they have poor resale values.
Most European vehicles have poor to very poor resale values, same as virtually any LR product whether it has a Lion TDV6 or not.

We've been keeping an eye on the D4 market for a while now. Only really looking at the 2.7, and they seem to be going for ~$20k with less than 200,000 on the clock. I'd hate to be selling one, but for us it's a great time to buy. Now in the market for one for the Mrs.

I'd never recommend one to a mate, but having 8 years of the D3 under my belt I'm confident enough in being able to keep one running myself and she really, really wants one. The 3.0 is just too much risk for me though.
