Agree only the flow is from the top radiator hose and not bottom radiator hose per the description. Why that keeps it cool I’m not quite sure.

The new bypass hose dumps with the matrix return into the water pump suction outside of the thermostat body. I’m hoping someone really clever will define better.

I’ll drive with it blocked for a few days before deciding on final configuration. I’ve got pipe ends to put on and remove the joiner hose.

Blocking the flow concurs with this thread by TWR7CX which shows the thermostats in each EGR. I might just do it by clamping the pipe to avoid caps.

    Winched this guy out

A few weekends ago out on Stockton beach, this guy had come up the entry from Williamtown and driven straight towards the surf.

Didn't seem to know how to put his car in 4wd and I reckon had about 40psi in his tyres! He'd buried himself pretty deep.

I pulled him up away from the water's edge and then got out of there. I half expected to see the car sitting there in the same spot when we went back the following day as he really had nfi

Bit of fun for me though as I got to use my hidden winch (hidden winch on D3/4 with standard bumper and NO roo-bar) in anger. Worked a treat. There were already a couple of guys there trying to sort the sunken Hilux when I arrived. Quite funny when I said to them I'll just winch him out - they took a look at the D4 and said "Winch, but you don't have a bullbar ?'

Windscreen chip repair this morning from my Albany trip. Albany Hwy is my windscreens nemesis. I popped in Wednesday to book it in and he gave me a sticker to put over the chip. "Wait until it's been in the sun and drys out, then put this on". Didn't even know they were a thing. I flushed the chip with a syringe of isopropyl alcohol and waited for it to dry out before placing the sticker (it had been out in the elements and windscreen washer fluid for a couple of months).

So stickers in the glove box. Next time I'll pull over and cover the chip immediately after it happens. This one had 2 cracks (North and South) but thankfully they remained about 5mm long and didn't grow.

Want to get paint protection film for what's left of the paint. Wonder if they do windscreens as well?

I do PPF film on cars and caravans, its really good for protection of paint and the soft easy to scratch caravan windows. I may give putting it on my rear window first to see how it goes with the wiper.

A few days of driving around with multi grips clamping my new hose and all seems normal again. Possibly slightly delayed warm up time as previously it would go pretty directly to middle position on gauge. Now it hovers longer before hitting the middle.

Will cap both ends and fill with fresh coolant.

I can’t imagine the coolers care if they don’t have coolant in them?

My only concern would be excessive conducted heat from the manifold. Might be worth putting an IR thermometer on the shells after a good drive to see if they exceed boiling temps.

I’m hoping Tombie’s EGR manifold blanking plates will be retailing soon.

Dropped the beast into my indy for a pre-trip inspection.
All good except that movement in the front bearing of the tail shaft.
Two hours later, new one fitted and I'm on my way.
Let's see if I get another 194k out of this one.
