Just had the wife present me with a carsales advert for a spectacularly immaculate 2014 D4, slowly followed up by the question "What does bottom end knock mean?".

I explained that was likely to be one of the conrods politely asking the block to let it out.

I think that means they are willing to be low balled!

We collected our new to us 2012 2.7 D4.
165k km, great service history, E Diff, leather, front bar, dual batt, Gap IID tool, plus some other bits and pieces.
We're the third owners, previous two are members here.
220km cross country trip, mostly C road and Hume Fwy, some corrugated dirt.
Very impressed, plus, coming from a 300Tdi, a mix of excitement and terror 😁

Just to welcome us to D4 ownership, got in this morning and got "Restricted Performance", "Gearbox Fault", "Handbrake Fault" 🥺

Pressing the "Press [OK] To Clear" and a restart cleared them, and it drove fine, I'm not game to put the handbrake on now.

No faults logged that seem to make sense.

I'm trying to get my head around the IID tool, and still need to transfer it to my name as well.

I'm off to search AULRO for D4 handbrake servicing 😁

Not totally sure about the Holy Trinity that welcomed you this morning but a less than optimum starter battery can throw numerous faults. In the D3 it is a transmission fault which could equate to your gearbox fault.

    Thanks for that Dale.
The battery is not very old, I'll see if I can find when it was replaced.
It had a 220km run across the state yesterday.
That said, the previous owner said he found it with a flat battery last week, it hasn't been driven mutch since he got his D5.

Pop it up on stands, adjust the rear shoes and don't worry about it.

Grab the latest Bodsys Brake Bible : https://media.disco3.co.uk/gallery/a...le_V1.4sml.pdf and have at it.

I used to do this every 10k service. Based on my lack of use/wear I now do it every second.

    Oh. Hell. No.

the Right one might come along, but it won’t be a 3L with a “knock”.

    Thanks Brad,
I knew I'd heard of that, now downloaded and stored away.
