New car feels - priceless What happened to your D3/D4 today?

New car warranty - in the 14 years I’ve kept the D4 (original plan was to drop them off lease every 3 years)….

I have saved 3 vehicles worth of purchase, spent less than 2k per year on servicing and maintenance which includes the full suspension midlife

I could blow up 15 engines and still not have spent the price of a new vehicle every 3 years.

I replaced the large glovebox in the D4, due the latch breaking.
I have written it up in a Discovery Glovebox thread, with photos HERE.
it was a frustrating job as the hinge pin is ?barbed? and the barbs would not compress with the tools I have.
cut the pins out and replaced with 75mm, M6 bolts, washers and Loctite nuts.
    best wishes,
    Jeff

There's a special LR tool but I saw a video on how to make a substitute tool. It's similar to a biro pen with centre removed that compresses the barb then you drive the hinge out through the middle of the pen.

    Camping Weekend

A usual 2 night camping weekend just outside Litchfield. The old girl just keeps ticking along (D3 not missus).

Dropped the D3 off at a tranny specialist, for a gearbox assessment/recon. Am standing by.

Interesting the number of Rangers in the yard. Also, a G-Wagon.

Just parked it at the driveway after doing nearly 600km to the Echuca Winter Blues Festival
Haven't driven it for a while so it was a nice reminder of what a fantastic car they are on country roads

Been there, not cheap, but, 260,000ks later it's still going strong

I stopped upgrading once we got the V8 D4, yes it has needed some decent work, timing chain tensioners and guides, but apart from that one weakness it has been very reliable and easy and reasonably inexpensive to maintain, now just about to tick over 250K and still going strong and is still great to drive.

Yes a new Disco or Defender would be nice but I so enjoy this now 16 year old Disco that I can't personally justify the massive expense of updating or even feel the need to.
    Cheers,
    Terry

Back in January the LHS A Pillar trim detached. I girded the loins and ordered a $103 trim from Aliexpress.

After multiple emails over multiple days carefully explaining that because he confirmed that he would ship to Australia, then I could confirm that YES, the Northern Territory was indeed a part of Australia and YES, Darwin was indeed part of the Northern Territory meaning that it was a city in Australia - PLEASE POST IT! This was all because of our postcodes start with a Zero and so we could not receive deliveries from Aliexpress

As it arrived in the Wet season I decided for a few reasons to leave it (as all holes in the pillar were covered) but finally got around to fitting it this morning. Seems to be OK so hopefully I have done it properly and it won't fly off!
    Cheers, Dale
