Yes, I meant the 8 speed. If it has the 8 Speed (rotary pop up dial) then it will have the latest updates.

You can upgrade the look of the car quite cheaply.
bumper can often get for free from ARB shops but if you put a bullbar on anyway you won’t need to.
the rear tail lights are about $500 but can Then sell the existing ones for $250 or more
the grills are $300
The headlights are the only pricey bit But can be bought cheaply if you keep your eyes peeled
here is mine the day I bought it vs now
thanks for the ongoing feedback and tips, very helpful!
I'm researching a particular car at the moment that I'm keen on and wondered your thoughts please.
2013 SDV6 Black Pack HSE 137K km's
In it's 7 years it's had 7 services with an average service interval of 12/months and 22,xxx km's.
In the past 12 months it's had the following:
4 new 19" tyres
new battery
replaced lower control arms
rear pads and discs
front pads and discs
inlet manifold replaced
coolant flushed
So they have spent $8K+ in the past 12 months.
$39Kono
Is this a good thing or a bad thing that so much has had to be attended to in the past 12 months.
To me its a positive that its had a fair bit of attention and expense in the last 12 months and so hopefully has a number of trouble free years ahead (with good ongoing and preventative maintenance).
thoughts?
Seems a lot but not if done by lR.
Hydro bushes last @ 100k so lower control arm replacement is normal. Manifolds are prone to cracking too.
So at least a lots been done already.
Belts will be next and they're costly to do so I'd be beating the price down a few k....
BeeGee - also make sure it had the Auto box tranny fluid changed and metal pan fitted at 80k and note tranny fluid should be done again at 160k. If they only had serviced by LR they would not have done this.
Pretty normal for a D4,as you can see maintenance costs are pretty high.
But at least the stuff on the list is now done.
As someone has said, timing belts will be next, then over the next six yrs that stuff on the list will need doing again, exceptbprobably the manifolds, hopefully.
And maybe something else.
I wouldn’t go near a black vehicle,but that’s me,some love them.
Good luck with your purchase, they are a fantastic vehicle.
Im late to this one but we did our research on the D4 several months back. Spoke to owners , watched the vids etc etc. Came to 2 conclusions. 1 was you want the 8 speed as its more reliable and i have payed for i think 4 transmission rebuilds in the past and its never a cheap exercise. The other conclusion was that with my luck i will snap the crank. So although i love the size and layout etc and know that although its a heavy car that its ok on sand we decided it was a no go. This is one that you really really want to be sure about. Listen to those who have had problems to see if the problems are common or if they are problems you can work around or fix yourself. Although i have rebuilt gearboxes and replaced heads etc on a few cars ,auto transmissions and snapped cranks are beyond what i want to deal with.
I see those things being replaced recently as a positive.
I’ll likely sell mine next year and I have had almost all of the common things go wrong and been replaced:
air compressor - upgraded
parking brake
rear door actuator
turbo pipe split
alternator
high pressure fuel pump
rear camseal leak
metal transmission pan fitted
lower control arms
whilst anything can happen with any car I’ve ticked off all the really common ones for the next owner so I expect a good longevity for them
Just a thought, and you may already know this, but if you go on Carsales and click on Land Rover / Discovery 4 you'll only get vehicles up to 2014 because of the name change to just "Discovery" from 2014.
If you want to see post-2014 D4s you need to click "Discovery" and then choose "Series 4".
