Thanks for that, yes worked it out about a week ago. But yes, originally I was just searching Carsales by Discovery 4. When I worked out the newer ones were just "Discovery" is opened up a whole new world for me ha ha.

Great car, even better family cars. I have a 2016 sdv6, with all the basics, llams ko2’s etc and 56k on the clock. Last year did a trip with the family (5) of us and pulled up in Julia Creek and official temp was 45, probly a tad warmer on the road side rest stop and AC handled just fine no third row, was nice to defrost. Live in the Isa and usually pretty cool after a few short mins.
During some recent rain thought I’d test out the sand capabilities. Drove both up and down the Leichhardt river while water was running. Not your usual dry beach run. Would have gotten the old hilux stuck at the first water hole. And did get the olds 110 stuck under the same circumstances. But the D4 just surged through, didn’t even let psi out, just hoisted the britches (llams) did spend an hour hosing a full bucket of sand from nooks and cranny’s though.
Amazing car, more than capable of what average joe will do, with the family in tow. I might not do the k’s but regularly do runs in 40+ Degs in some pretty harsh spots and you can’t compare.
G'day, BeeGee,
I owned a Pajero ~ 2009 before my 2014 D4 (SE) - driven since new, I'll summarise as follows:
- 7 kids, had concerns about lack of a/c in the back like the Pajero, but true to the car salesman's pitch, turn it up a bit and it does flow okay into the back. 6 hour trips to the other side of Gero and back in 40+ degrees summertime sun (am/pm) and no complaints from 6th and 7th in the back;
- Kids grow up quick, the split seat in the D4 is far better than the Pajero bench seat. I now have a box setup (Engel) over the 7th seat with weld mesh over top, lots of room for my youngest in the sixth seat;
- Three split seats are very handy, tons of room under all the seats for bits and pieces;
- I run 19" Cooper Zeon, carry a second spare (on rim) on roof-rack, run around 16 psi on the beach, drive carefully/aware on sandy limestone tracks to avoid pinched sidewalls - so far been lucky (wasn't so lucky with previous factory tyres). Mud/Rock/gravel road corrugations I generally run at 40 psi and let the computer do it's work.
- Only been really bogged on sand twice - both times when reversing up sand hills. Driven extreme through beach waves/seaweed, mud and rocky hills where I know the Pajero wouldn't have made it. Been into isolated areas where a mate's Pajero has really struggled/bogged but not me;
- Front runner roofrack and ladder over tailgate; GOE rock plate sliders underneath; carry GOE air suspension airlines just in case; have GOE suspension arm links for when travelling offroad >30 kmh;
- Electrics - I've pulled panels out to understand what the colored wires are, where they go and which fuses are what;
- I've driven the HSE when mine's been in for a service - no difference to my SE except the sound system is a bit better;
- Had trailer tyres blow/shred at 100k+ and no jack knifing;
- I've done 75k and drive hard, the sports mode sorts out the accelerator lag when I need quick takeoff, the twin turbo 8 speed is quick (I leave the traffic behind most of the time) and fuel economy averages 10.2 litres, very comfortable long distance, it's a daily drive car that I won't be upgrading anytime soon.
I'm in Bassendean, happy for you check mine out, otherwise can send photos. Don't over think it, a best mate once said to me you won't go wrong with the Disco and he was right.
Thankyou for the feedback from a number of members along my journey to purchasing a Discovery. I had a few reservations coming from a Pajero but the feedback received helped me get over the line.
Well, I've bitten the bullet and purchased a 2014 Discovery XXV (25 year anniversary edition). Absolutely love it so far! Looking forward to family holidays and towing my Jayco Swan Outback.
It's pretty stock standard to date with only a Redarc towpro and Anderson connection at the rear.
However, I've already ordered 18" TuffAnts with BFG's, and a Llams (purchased from a forum member).
Future plans are pretty modest as I'd like to keep it pretty stock but they include:
- IID GAP tool
- Traxide dual battery setup
- Rhino rack Pioneer platform 3/4
- APT air compressor guard (and perhaps the front guard. Not sure about the auto transmission guard)
- Fit my existing Ironman awning
- Fit my existing UHF
cheers
BeeGee

Nice looking D4.
Another Sandgropper [biggrin] Love WA honest. D3 D4 sand is easy as long as the tire sidewall copes with low pressure. Had a ball in my D3 in sand especially Near Cape Le Grand West of Esperance on a short cut to Balladonia[thumbsupbig] Fantastic drive with 100k or so of sand with 20ish of really soft stuff which did not need sand tracks I was carrying. 15ish PSI[thumbsupbig]
Loads of people have BFG here and swear by them. The coopers BFG warfare is intense. I would agree 18 inch are much better than 19. I like the 17inch which made my former 2005 D3 winch feel redundant. I haven't put a winch on the 2009 replacement and sadddly have yet to load the 17s on the replacement. My bet is you will really feel the step up in comfort from your Pajero. For deep water crossing Discos cross while a few Pajero floated away in my direct observations. Not sure if WA as that many deep river crossings but it might be nice for you to know.
