Dropped all of its oil on the road

Yeah sorry Eric. It was pretty clear the engine didn’t lose pressure so it’s unlikely there’s any real issue based on the story told. It doesn’t need full oil capacity to produce enough oil flow

How confident are you that you didn't overfill it ? If it was significantly overfull that could have helped pop a seal.

Yours has a DPF??? I didn’t think any of the Aus spec ones had a DPF.

Mine had a DPF. It's an import. It was the first year the DPF was available and it was a "Holden Captiva" grade disaster (much like lots of things on this car).

It also has the FBH (which doesn't work) African/Middle East spec aux fuel cooler (which is bypassed as it leaked) and is equipped with all the underbody rust that comes with spending the first 4 years of its life on UK roads.

In fact the only thing that hasn't played up on the car is the 6 speed Manual box. Though with the way my wife gets on with the clutch is only a matter of time.

99% confident, I only ever put in what I take out - unless the dipstick still showed low but in this case it didn’t.

but The reason I posed it as an option is I didn’t check it before I started the oil change so if they added any during the service perhaps it was high to start. Can they change seals without changing oil?

Yes. Oil won’t leak from there in any quantity unless under pressure when the engine is running, so yes, you can change seals without changing the oil.

But the seal area must be absolutely clean of oil otherwise the seal will push out.
