    Gents,

    This is an extract from the service manual page 1782 if you really want to look yourself;
    for 2.7 engine
    Item Specification
    * Anti-freeze Havoline Extended Life Coolant (XLC) or any ethylene glycol based
anti-freeze containing no methanol with only Organic Acid Technology (OAT)
    corrosion inhibitors

for 3.0 just states WSS M97B44-D

I dont know if this help or confuses the situation. I've been running Penrite red in mine but that just because i went off the supercheap website.

I can’t find a copy of the formal spec (free) to verify if it specifies silicate free. I don’t believe that the spec does require that which would be why Penrite list red as compatible.
LR do specify a coolant as Havoline XLC which is also silicate free, I’m glad there not telling people to use Castrol anymore, probably why they use a different coolant now.

Penrite spec it as performance level, but not approved.

Castrol and Havoline are Chevron products. Havoline XLC is sold as Castrol in Australia. Having said that, it won't be shortly after Chevron revokes the license to use Castrol in Australia. I don't suppose they'll be selling Ampol XLC.

I think I'll go the Penrite blue when I do ours later in the year.

Not does their Blue so presume then that can’t be used either.

The best part about the blue coolant outside of performance - it’s easy to see the levels in the reservoir Radiator Flush Technique Question

I’ve had it in my D4 for 6 months now.

No, you're mixing up Castrol with Caltex.
Caltex is a name owned my Chevron, (and used under licence by Caltex Australia) Castrol is owned my BP

The original Land Rover OAT was straight Caltex/Havoline ELC, aka GM Dexcool.
CAT ELC is Havoline ELC with a few extra SCA's (supplementary coolant additives) to give the life and cavitation corrosion protection they needed in wet liner engines and for the life of me I can't recall atm what they were.

And yet, we are no closer to knowing what is useable.
We have Land Rover specifying us to use a coolant that meets a Ford specification.
We have two examples of coolants from Penrite that claim to meet the specification. One is a silicated OAT and the other silicate free OAT.
I have Josh telling me that if it’s a silicated coolant it’s not compatible (so either Penrite or Josh is wrong).

At the end of the day, those running Penrite Red, is it wrong or right? For those with red coolant in their system installed by an Indy - is it a cause for concern?

Yes indeed I am. It's the Caltex Delo XLC which is the marketing name for the Havoline XLC here.

Or for those with red coolant installed (? Or filled) DIY?

12 months on since flush, no issues at all, so I'm comfortable with my choice of coolant brand / spec

I guess it’s whether you expect your water pump to last three years or ten years. A year doesn’t say much, all respect.
