Can you just lock/unlock it manually with the key? I think it would be locked, but not immobilised.

Yes you can but it’s fiddly getting the silly cover off the passengers side door handle to do it.
It’s also very easy to damage the cover.
What were they thinking, why not have a keyhole like any other vehicle?
But the car still won’t start as it’s push button.

    It will.

Cover pops off easily using the key. Keyhole covered to prevent the common problem like in a D2, hardly used and gets messed up from dirt/ice/mud etc from no use.

Then open the car, get in hold transponder under steering column and push button Smart key not found

Never had any issues with the D2 keyhole,or on any other vehicle, but i can see it could be a problem.

The D4 cover doesn't last long after it has been used a few times.
We have a key for ours, and used it when surfing, fishing, swimming, etc, and eventually gave up with the idea as the cover fell apart,it definitely is not designed to be used more than a couple of times. The design is not the best.

But after using the key to open the vehicle, with the smart key fault,no matter where the fob is located the car will never start.

Although with the smart key fault, the doors seem to open and shut.

I generally take the disco over to the battery mob, replace the battery in the shop and then go out to the carpark and test it. I have had "brand new" batteries that still gave this fault. When this happens I try another battery and then its fine.

Hey Luke, you don't have any other"stuff" in your car do you. I have a wireless fridge temp gauge. Which has lived in the centre console for a while and two bluetooth battery modules. I'm thinking that my issue really started with all the "stuff" this weekend away on the dirt bikes I moved the reciever for the fridge to the cup holder and then to the tent. And never had any issues with the smart key. I'll monitor over the next few days. Then maybe drop out the battery monitors. The fridge sender and receiver both have no battery's now living in the shed.

I'm on day 4 now with no more smart key missing. And the car starts everytime, was a Kings wireless fridge thermometer causing my issue it seems. The Blue tooth battery monitors are still connected. Makes sense as the thermometer is on radio frequency.

    Hi mate
sorry I thought this thread died but I hadn’t seen the last responses.

Has your error gone completely now? I can’t think of anything which would interfere but I’m home from our big 8month trip next week and will strip the car completely and see if I get a different outcome

Been almost a year now, no progression but no cure

    Hey mate,

Yeah the error is gone. I did repeat it before I smashed it with a hammer. That was rewarding

Ha ha...I did that to a Victa lawnmower that wouldn't start one day.

Kids looked on in horror..and they still remind me about it☺
