Its another addition to the crankshaft/gearbox lottery we D3/D4 owners are playing.

MY11 (built 12.2010) D4 SDV6SE with 197000km and still on original manifolds and crankshaft.

crankshaft = motor out and new one? (not really a re build option?) looking at options when that happens... SD6 or TD6 motor? apparently 3.0 motors v hard to get but the 2.7 (ford territory no Probs and cheap to move over)

I’m waiting to find out if replacement manifolds split. My first side was done at 160,000km so I guess in another 50,000km I’ll find out (not lol).

Body off motor out. Replace crankshaft. Motor can be rebuilt, usually the conrod next to the offending main bearing is replaced as well new set of main and big end bearings . New forged crank is around Aud 5k i believe.

Depends on the damage of course. New 3.0l crate short motor is around AUD 18-20K but then you need to add fitting time. Reusing existing turboes and exhaust. But I havent checked in detail. 2.7s are a bit cheaper.

I also understand same motor is fitted to some Jaguars, they dont break cranks or manifolds, so to me could be a power:weight issue with the D4.

Would love to know if a SCV6 petrol is a direct drop in replacement, would have to swap out fuel tank as well of course...

Reasonably easy. Took a morning and the bushes are cheap.

B all SC V6s sold in Aus so local 2nd hand supply will be the main issue I guess.. even inc Jags ....numbers will be v low. So OS engine SC supply will be the focus or a new motor🤤

Should be a drop in re g box and mounts albeit for all the necessary changes to ecu(s)...wiring..fuel system ...exhausts...etc etc. I also doubt it can be dropped in from the top.. you can't get a hand down either side of the motor..so def body off.

Mmm...looks far too difficult a swap to me!!

My son Justin and I compared the latest RH manifold with the original MY10 while changing his and found extra thickness in various areas and more webbing in various places, being obvious strength improvements including along the line where Justin's had split.

Are the manifolds cast in two and welded together or single piece moulded/printed?

I noted the replacement coolant pipes for the D4 SC are single piece moulded or printed even, and not 2 piece joined mouldings anymore. Hopefully this removes the join/seam weak point where the pipes commonly split and leak.
