I think his main bitch is with the company and it's dealers, not the vehicles. Much the same with most of the vehicles he knocks, e.g., VW.

Trying not to be too biased I’ve got to admit I’ve never poured as much money into a car post purchase than the D4 so he has a point, one which I carefully explain to anyone who asks if I’m happy with it.
i essentially say you buy the car, then you pay a subscription to keep it. So as long as you are aware of that possibility it’s the best car you can own. And yes, I’ll buy another this year.
Nothing else looks as good, handles work in the city, beach runs, bush tracks and tows like it. All without extra mods
Yes his main gripe does appear in many cases to relate to customer service issues...BUT given the multi brand dealers (as he notes) that issue affects almost all cars out there.
Case in point he highlights Mercedes willingness to fight you all the way over product failings. The same dealer here sells Audi and BMW .. which he rates highly..
I know of some Audi owners that have had v bad dealer experiences...one of which related to an A4 gearbox failure which they refused to fix under warranty.
So .. Cadogan is full of contradictions....nothing surprising there as he thrives on being controversial..so facts are often overlooked🙄
I don't think he overlooks facts at all - his gripes at the dealers he picks on are very warranted. His advise about what cars to avoid also make sense if you look at them from an unbiased viewpoint. Anyone who owns a vehicle he nags out immediately gets their backs up, but his points are usually well made.

He’d be more credible, maybe, if he toned down his foul mouth.

His mouth is very tame compared to what is said on the building sites I frequent daily so I haven't seen that as an issue to be honest but it is a valid point.

Come on blokes.
He is talking to say 90 % of the towinG market not the 1% that Land Rover represents.
A Santa Fe costs about 41k and has a capacity of 2 tonnes with 100 kg ball weight.
Hyundais are also just about the most reliable cars on Earth.
A D4 D5 costs about 100 grand and are the most unreliable cars on Earth.
one would sincerely hope that at least the D4 would have some towinG aids to compensate for the absurdly small fuel tank, the ridiculous wheels, and the D4 suspension that seems to need replacing at regular intervals.
My daughter just bought a Sportsge after I recommended a Santa Fe . The Diesel Sportsge has 1900, kg towinG with 100 kg download, and gets 6.4 lper 100.
Perfect for a camper trailer and an M1 commute.
She and many others could no more afford a D5 than fly to the moon. She originally wanted an Outback but I got her to read Cadogan review and she changed her mind, even though he loves Outback’s he honestly opined that not for towinG.
I think his towinG review was spot on and I learned something, ie thatHyundai does a towinG pack.
