Hyundais are also just about the most reliable cars on Earth.
A D4 D5 costs about 100 grand and are the most unreliable cars on Earth.
one would sincerely hope that at least the D4 would have some towinG aids to compensate for the absurdly small fuel tank, the ridiculous wheels, and the D4 suspension that seems to need replacing at regular intervals.
My daughter just bought a Sportsge after I recommended a Santa Fe . The Diesel Sportsge has 1900, kg towinG with 100 kg download, and gets 6.4 lper 100.
Perfect for a camper trailer and an M1 commute.
She and many others could no more afford a D5 than fly to the moon. She originally wanted an Outback but I got her to read Cadogan review and she changed her mind, even though he loves Outback’s he honestly opined that not for towinG.
I think his towinG review was spot on and I learned something, ie thatHyundai does a towinG pack.

apologies for strange caps and grammar my pc blew up via NBN lightning strike so only iPad.

The Kia Urban Fuel Burn is 8.0l/100 Urban - Not the combined mix of Urban and Highway of 6.4/100
When comparing also need to take into account its 62L fuel tank and its range is no better than a D4. For comparison, My work Toyota with a 130L tank gets 900km
The Kia is quite heavy for its size @ 1736kg tare and with a max GVM of 2250kg wont be doing much legally. Thats 514kg - 100kg for the towball leaving 414kg for everything else.

Good for a Single or Couple travelling lightly

No point comparing Apples with Oranges!

I would NOT be seen dead in a Kia or a Hyundai.

I had a Kia for a work car and it was crap. Yes it had a 7 year warranty......it needed it too...that's why the Dept bought them...and was cheap. But it was nasty to drive and wrecked my back.

Drove a Hyundai Santa Clause for a while too and hated it...wallowed and crashed over bumps and holes. Brakes were rubbish too.

Sorry but I love my D4 SC. Just towed wood with a combined weight of 3.5 tonnes over 100ks and it drove brilliantly. Drove up a driveway steep as and backed into a stupidly awkward shed up a steep narrow and wet access road. All in high range too.

There is no way a Kia or a Hyundai could have done that😂

On way home I had to remind myself there was a trailer on the back.

IMHO Kia/Hyundais originated and still belong in boganville😉

I was just trying to point out exactly the same thing.
There is no validity in criticising the Cadogan report as his report is much more typical of the average situation than a D4 towinG a giant 3500 kg, and it is hard not to agree that thetowed mass should not be more than the car mass.
so urban and highway is 6.4 and city 8 then highway must be around 5 which I find astoundingly good.
Look my daughter will not be towinG to GVM so your calculations are not applicable. I would have suggested something else if that was the case say an Isuzu. They just sold a. challenger.

I was just rereading the 12 2019 LRO where John Pearson was lamenting that Which car had scored LR near bottom for reliability.
the Which Car quote was You May be able to drive up a mountain in style but will your breakdown service be able to reach you when it conks out.
dIscovery sport and Evoque rated “ dont buy”
The last or near last place of LR in just about every reliability survey cannot be just coincidental. Its just lucky for them that they have a devoted owner body which they continually seem to burn.

Mmm....Cadogan also s cans Toyota for their disaterous DPF /air box engineering and ridiculous excuses inc blaming the customer/guest for engine failures.

So LR are not alone in that regard ...and look at VWs products and customer service....the list of dodgy cars and dealers goes on and on and on.

Anyhow...the point of my post was the irony of Cadogan's canning of LRs which are well equipped tow cars..as often v/noted by RV forums.

Yes there is a vast price difference new but as we know to add necessary towing features after market costs a bomb and may render the car illegal or less safe to drive...to wit slanted cruisers and the like getting around.

I think we can agree that buying a car is a risk no matter the brand and Cadogan raises some important issues albeit he generalises a lot. Pity our consumer law enforcement is so weak otherwise we might get a better deal and Cadogan would be out of a job☺
