Thread: Goodyear Duratrac - are they noisy??

My experience with Duratracs noisiness was:
non insufferable, like some others can be. So I'd put up with their noise levels.
Caveat tho, was that this was on a D1(YoungAngus's Tdi).

I've now had experience with 4 sets of tyres 'directly'.

Duratracs sounded quieter than KO2s, but again the caveat is that the Goodyears on a D1 Tdi, KO2s on a D2 TD5. D2 has much better sound insulation all round.
I'd bet they're close enough to the same(directly speaking) than someone who may have gone from a set of one to another.
At this same time I had Yokohama Geolander G012s on my D1 Tdi, and they were more worn than the Goodyears and the KO2s, and due to this extra wear may have sounded similarly loud.
I do remember when I got my D1 the Yokos and were new they didn't seem as loud compared to when I had the chance to experience the Duratracs.
G012 tread pattern was far more road oriented than either the Duratracs and the KO2s, so I'd expect quieter.

I had BFG KO on the D2,not that noisey at all.Actually quieter than a worn out set of OEM Michelin XPC's.
Both the KO,and KO2 are drony on the D4,the KO2 appear to be worse.Mostly around 60 to 70km/hr.

And a mate has KO2 on a LC200 Sahara,they can hardly be heard at all.

Apparently the more refined a vehicle,the noisier the tyres appear.

I've had ko2s , duratracs and bridgestone at's on a 200 series 285/65/18 the bridgestones were the quietest ,but the worst out of the three, and the cheapest, the ko2s were quieter than the duratracs for sure, but as said the duratrac are a class act especially on gravel, yes they throw more rocks on the gravel and hum more on the tar but you can't have it all ,thats not saying that ko2's are a bad tire they are great all round tire, nearly the same klms 8000 less out of the dura's but id take the duras over the ko2's, just my opinion.

Just to throw a curve ball to the KO2 aspects of this discussion. I've been running some Wellington Highlander ATs for the last 16 months. Usage has been roughly one third on the bitumen and the other two thirds on bush tracks.

Yes, they are a Chines copy of the KO2.

They have been a total surprise to me. No complaints at all. A bit of a not over the top intrusive hum on the bitumen but in the bush....totally competent, just point and drive. Importantly to me there have been no stone punctures, sticks through sidewalls etc.

Can you clarify though... “Bridgestone AT” isn’t really enough info - which unit?

And don’t fall into the trap of comparing rubber between vehicles. I’ve had vehicles where certain tyres are a complete disaster and other brands/models work better with them.

Correct me if I'm wrong on the number but i think from memory 697 LT'S rings loudly, i ran them on my hilux as well different size of course , with the same results could be just a toyota thing also ran the ko2 on the hilux and had a older set of goodyear wrangler MT'S they were great too. But Bridgestone when it comes to issues with tires were top notch i ran a road tire called ecopia or something like that, they bubbled two side walls , and they replaced all four tires. The 697s if thats correct ,wore the worst, they were the worst in the wet and the worst on the gravel on both cars ,rotated at service 10000klms on each car ,saying that where we live is very hard on tires regardless what they are. but they were the quietest. Totally agree on different cars work better on one tyre to another. my opinion is just based on what I've tried on our road, on those two vehicles they could be great on a amarok or a great wall.

Pretty impressed with my Falkens so far. Not too noisy & handle well in both wet & dry. Have yet to take them off road so can't comment there....& @ just a bit north of $2K inc wheel alignment....& they look pretty cool
