advice needed - Buy a used 18 inch Alloy Rim

    Dear Members,
I currently own a 2011 Disco 4 2.7 Diesel which has a set of 20 inch alloy rim which is not great for off road driving. And I found a set of used original 18 inch rim comes off a 2009 Disco 3.

    I have some questions:-

    1. How do I know if these 18 inch rims would fit ? Would be possible to keep the brake calipers?
    2. Is likely that I have to change brake caliper?
    3. How do I inspect the soundness of the used 18 inch alloy rims?

I attached two photos. "my current 20 inch" and "used one to buy".

    Your assistance is highly appreciated.

    1) 18's fit on all non 3.0ltr d4's (diesel only) and D3's.
    2) none at all
    3) check for cracks or buckles and any impact type marks.

Pretty sure those 18's are actually 19" or from a different model Landy, ie disco sport or evoque which wont fit.

thanks very much for your detailed explanation... is it worthy just buy AT tyre for existing 20 inch instead of taking risk for used ones and paying more ?

I've got a set of Tuffants in the shed I got second hand cheap. I just change wheels when required..I hate the drone when they are not required.. Tuffants. Moabs. Compomotive. They all come up for sale in the classifieds section from time to time..

Good AT tyres on 20 inch rims will never beat the same tyre on a 18, plus the chance of rim damage is lower with 18s. If you don't want to change all the time keep a eye on gumtree aswell. And read all the threads on here about tyres so you don't need to listen to the noise. Good luck

thanks, i did spend a few days and went through the relevant threads in here about tyres. at the moment, i probably will just go for 20 inch AT tyres to save the hassle of changing them all the time although 18 inch definitely perform better on the off-road condition.. i am not an extreme off road driver anyway
