With most D4s that will mean the standard 19" wheels: the smallest rims that will fit over the brakes are the 18" Compomotives that have been jiggered with so that they clear the brakes - nothing smaller will fit.
I got quoted $1,000 per corner to switch to Compomotives, including new Bridgestone tyres - I'd want 6x so that would be $6,000.

I nearly chocked on my breakfast reading that. Check out Tuff Any; 18" steelies or alloys designed for the Disco 4. It cost me around $2300 for 5 steelies and Falken Wildpeaks and couldn't be happier with my choice. The wheels look great and work well. And the tyres....amazing off road and well mannered on road. I was able to keep up on tricky tracks with my mate running MTs on a double diff locked Land Cruiser 100 and I only had the terrain response system available.
On the weekend I picked up a screw in one of my wildpeak tyres. I pulled it out and it stay inflated. Very happy. My previous Cooper ATs would have been flat in a heartbeat.

not wanting to support ASPW but the car in question was bog standard on highway tyres and there was a lot of concern over pinching a sidewall. The going was extremely slow going over boulders and he was clear about the higher pressures being only for that particular journey. He was not advocating higher pressures for everything.
On the issue of lower profile tyres (19”) a former Cooper rep told me that the wrap of the tread around the tyre shoulders would almost reach the strengthening at the bead so the sidewalls on a 19” tyre would be particularly strong. When discussing pressures on dirt he suggested I drop to 25psi in the rear (from the 30psi I was running) even when towing my 1.7 tonne camper trailer. I’m on my second set of AT980’s and have done, amongst other things the entire Savannah Way from Chillagoe to Boroloola and the Central Arnhem Road to Nhulunbuy and return on them with no problems.

Surely that is simply a function of the length of the screw and how much tread it went through etc? You were just lucky it didn't go all the way through. I had the same recently on my Pirelli ATR. Just a lucky length screw and nothing to do with the brand of tyre. Any brand with a long enough puncture will deflate.

Sorry for the slow response LukeO. Yes, you did read that correctly although I just checked the Tuffant site and the price of the steelies has gone up to $1165 for a set of 5 but still great value. I sourced the tyres from a local dealer on Sydney's Northern Beaches and 5 Falkens were $1225. My price was in October 2020 so not sure now but couldn't be much more.
As I said, I have been incredibly happy with the set-up. I drive a lot for work and they have never let me down. Even today driving to Canberra I had to perform an emergency stop at 100km/h due to an accident a few cars ahead and the tyres pulled up without any concern.
