Thanks Kelvo. That's where I was landing. I still think it's a 'reasonable' price compared to what else is out there, but I'll be negotiating a bit harder...

I put together the attached comparison list when looking at D4s last year based on Redbook specs.
    Discovery 4 Models.xlsx

That said, given the long list of optional extras a TDV6 could come with most of the features of a higher spec model.

The model designation (SE, HSE) is fairly irrelevant think. The base spec could be optioned with all kinds of fruit, so no longer a good measure.

Does it have on it what you want? Ie, rear air, big screen, audio, headlights, etc?

The SDV6 and electric seats are easy retrofits, and extras like dual batteries are always aftermarket, so better installed yourself for peace of mind it’s done right.

    Agreed Veebs,

although I'm not sure about 'SDV6 is an easy fix'... That sounds like a major swap in/out, surely?

I think the biggie for me may be the rear seat split thing - 60:40, or the '3 seat' option, because I really liked that for things like a fridge on my last one. I'll see. Does the TDV6 change wheel fitting vs the SDV6? (ie, do I have a wider aftermarket 18 inch choice?).

Thanks for all the constructive help for a noob folks!

My understanding is that the power difference between TDV6 and SDV6 is software only. There are no parts/hardware differences. A TDV6 can be tuned/flashed to SDV6 specs.

All 3.0L D4s are limited to a few 18 inch options (tuffant, MOAB, compomotive). I've seen videos from the US where they use spacers to fit other rims but you'd have to check if legal.

All good and thanks for all the help. It's got what I want, it's at a relatively low price point, and it's local with a good service history. (timing belts are done, new control arms on...) Looks like I'm back in the fold. (and, as mentioned correctly above, it's an offroad/mods 'virgin' that hasn't been mucked about, so I'm starting with a clean sheet on a 2015 build 2016 MY body.) Sweet.
