    Territory engine

Regarding your queries on using a Territory engine in your D3, it is more straight forward if your D3 is a EU4 emissions level; as you can use the Territory high-pressure fuel system etc. If your D3 is an EU3 then using a Territory motor is still doable but there are more parts that you will need to swap over. For more info on the EU3/EU4 differences have a look at Outback Discovery on YouTube: DISCOVERY 3 ENGINE BUILD PT 3 , Fuel system , intake manifold clean, glow plugs - YouTube

In terms of using a Territory engine in your situation (ie. being away from home with limited workshops around) - it should be absolutely no issue if the Workshop is familiar with Land Rovers. Otherwise, it may take them a little longer to work out what needs changing which would probably add to the labour cost.

Once the Territory motor has had the LR ancillaries, wiring harness, etc, put onto it, there is no messing around with ECU etc; as it is the "same" motor, your ECU will not notice the difference .

I just recently finished installing a Territory motor in my D3 (MY08 EU4), so if you have any questions feel free to let me know, my memory isn't the best but I took a heap of pictures during the work

This should be the treasure of the world.
Please get some coffee, relax, remember most of the steps, put all of photos and steps in a writing and share it to the forum and the world. I believe at least 50 years later people still find it and appreciate your work.

I second that. In fact, I believe that there should be a section in "The Good Oil" dedicated to the Territory conversions, and Falcon500's would be a good place to start.

This thread's OP would benefit, as would those who have yet to experience the need. D3/4s are filtering down to the cheap seats, and I imagine this conversion will only increase in popularity.

That is a good idea and the comments from you guys is inspiring

I will look into this - I did the work over the course of about a year but most of the engine stuff was done in the last couple of months. I leveraged a lot of info that was on this forum already but a document with everything in one place would be very useful.

A AULRO member did a whole thread on the Territory engine into a D3 years ago somewhere, very useful, I believe I even chirped in a few comments too.

    Update

So I have made up my mind, based almost exclusively on what I can afford.

I really wanted to send it to Darren at Aztec in Perth as RACQ would subsidise the transport, but unfortunately not enough. With the extra in freight, a flight from Adelaide to Perth, and fuel and accommodation back to Hawker to pick up the van it was blowing my budget big time.

A new motor is out. TRS can no longer source them and GWP want around $15000 for one, plus installation.

So a second hand engine it is, sourced from TRS (they confirmed they no longer have a workshop) and installed by Chris's Mechanicals here in Hawker. If I was doing it myself, back home, with access to tools and a garage I would definitely gone with the Territory engine. However it would have been too costly to get Chris to spend so much time to convert everything over.

So that's where I am. The engine will be shipped up from Adelaide after they put in new timing belts, plus Chris is booked out at the moment so they won't be able to start until the 9th January. So I get to spend the next 6 weeks or so here in Hawker.

Thank you everyone for your contributions and I will keep this updated as things progress.
