FWIW, without counting RRS,or D5,the number of D3/D4 sold would be lucky to be 2K a year in Aus,so say 20K,plus a handful of D5, and RRS,all with the V6,either 2.7 or 3.0L.
    So total around maybe 25K,at a wild guess,or 30K.

    Even 10% of 30K is only 3K.
My guess is a lot more than 3K have had engines changed, remembering this issue has been on going for many years. Some vehicles are on their third engines.

Certainly a lot less sold than say something like the 1-VD,with well over 250K sold over the years,in Aus.
Approximately 800 Discovery units per month around 2010-2016 so around the mark of 50k units.

I know your a highly regarded LR repairer , but there are others in Perth who also service LR so im guessing you dont see every LR in the area .. but those numbers must throw the supposed failure rate quoted by LR out the window.. even if you have serviced 1000 different cars with those engines that 3 - 4%

Certainly opens ones eyes thats for sure

for me it was the most changed out engine.
Other good indy workshops such as Rovertech must have done an endless number of them, far more than me and I spose the other **** ones too have no doubt done plenty.
Plus the odd workshop that dont specialise is LR models but have done a few, most of them though tend to steer away from doing it again.

Thats slowed a bit over the last few years, now its endless oil coolers and cracked inlet manifolds.

Yes since being in Perth i have seen 3 for sale with failed engines but all 3 were 2012 models..

I must admit i did look thru the D5 section and never seen much reference to failed engines or inlet manifolds..

I cant help to wonder if we are going to see the same thing in the new Ford Ranger..

They were celebrating the last full year of D4 when they sold around 2500 vehicles for the year.
My figures generously included D3,which sold at less than 2000 per year at times.

LR total sales for Aus,may have been something like 800 a month, which is way above recent sales numbers.

Only time will tell with the V6 diesel ford. The ford fanbios believe its a good engine due to the 2.7 being rather successful in the Territory. It does now have a forged crank and other updates... but only time will tell.

"I’d have suggested a new car, not tyres" That's what I'm doing.... Mines 6.1/2 now and I've never kept a car that long before but I've enjoyed driving it and it's been mostly trouble free. Except for that damn EPB which locked on not far from home one day.
