Think I have joined the broken crankshaft club

It was a fine and clear day , Friday 13 , cruising up Willunga Hill almost to the very top, then very slight quivering of the tiller, then no power steering, no dash lights no noise.

So I just coasted to a stop, watched a bit of smoke and steam emanate from under the bonnet, got out the new old stock triangle, walked back 40 desultory steps, and rang RAA,

I hope Hogarthde got off lightly from Friday the 13th, like I did, but my incident was a couple of days after....

John, tis. a 2016 D4 Landmark, 3.0 with 110,000 . Towed a fair bit, but I have always been an 'owner operator ' so always looked after my gear, though it is my work vehicle.
Irealise this means nothing, machinery can be thrashed to an inch and do 10 thousand hours.

Anyhow, the exact cause hasn't been determined yet, but I have mentioned to my financial planner, we may need $30,000

Is it confirmed that the crank has gone Dave ? or could you be lucky and something else like the fuel pump belt has let go.

Reports from the UK suggest that from about that year the crank was upgraded.

No one seems to be able to provide any data to back that up.

But hopefully something a bit cheaper/easier.

It would be nice if the crankshaft position sensor failed abruptly as that wouldn't trigger any faults, but unfortunately I've only heard of them deteriorating over quite some time, causing issues such as stopping for no reason while idling or being very hard to start.
