That’s a pretty dodgy OEM manufacturer original part if true. I’m sure LR would have updated the part pretty quickly if so.

A genuine part doesnt just do that - theyre more robust than that.

Overtension could do it, or misalignment. Or trying to torque it down with the threaded holes containing coolant will leave them out of tension / alignment.

Years arent a sign of quality either - not picking on your guy - we have 40 year experience engineers here and I wouldnt rate some of them

    Indeed. Even Lada did better.

Who hasn't heard the proverbial "I've been driving for forty years and never" garbage. Also not picking on RL's guy.

    IMHO...

*top coolant outlets often fail just after a timing belt has been done (if its not replaced) as the removal of the top coolant hose flexes it.
*obviously age/mileage, I recommend my customers get them changed out at that half way point between timing belt changes.
*I've not seen a genuine outlet fail after what was it a few weeks? must be flexing on that top outlet.

*the alloy ones that I have come across are complete ****, the bottom machine grove for the orings are poorly done, the outlet at the back for the fuel cooler oring is too big, EVERY one I have come across had sealant on it to try and stop it from leaking, one of the bolts has too be removed to fit one of the 4 bolts to the head.
*another workshop close to me said the same thing, they remove them and fit a genuine one.
    Regards

Not a genuine LR part but one from a big OEM outfit with over 100 years in business and a parts catalogue of over 40 000 parts, LR parts all the way back to 1948, massive market share in some items, and in some countries, up to 85% in one instance. My mechanic can't get any of them at the moment so maybe they had a bad batch, or used them up at quite a rate, if they had to replace a lot under warranty, or quietly withdrew them.

Stop with the riddles and name the brand...

An OEM outfit doesnt necessarily "OEM" a certain marques parts - and at that point theyre a Pattern Part maker...

Given a Genuine part is like $120 why would anyone even consider an alternative...

I still find it funny how we’ve normalised that these components are consumable. It really shouldn’t be hard to make a part to have a life longer than seven years.

They probably should have stuck to making clutches……
