Yeh, but maybe they'll charge $500 for labor or something ! Still nice to know they are at the lower end of ripoffs for the parts !

I had in mind that when the D2 V8 manual got 225-240k or so on her I would be ready to move to a second hand D2 TDV6 or V8 however after reading this I am doubting that wisdom from the viewpoint of running costs (D3 LOVERS dont flame me and say that is the cost of the extra special vehicle im going to compared to the D2 please). I could afford head gaskets and a bloody 4.6 stroke and still be ahead on the above prices!

    Cheers

PS. Still not adverse to the idea of the D3 but I would be making sure that I had access to a good local with the gear. For me that probably leaves Knights House of Rover because MR is too far away, but even Knights is hardly close to me and I would be avoiding the Brisbane dealers like the plague based on in warranty experience with them...thats the big problem as I see it with all Rovers (much as I love them) and the more modern the vehicle and the more modern and expensive the equipment needed the more rare the non dealer specialists who can service them properly and download the appropriate "software" becomes.

Ever had a current model Merc, Jag, BMW, etc worked on by a Dealer?
High labour prices aren't exclusive to Land Rover.

This is indeed the major problem , and not just for vehicles.
Electronics throughout our lives is becoming a "bin and replace"
situation. It's already leading to vehicles of medium age becoming
    undesirable.
Soon, the "keep it in the family" older cars will not be worth it.
Folk are already buying cheap new cars as 2nd and 3rd eg. Getz,
rather than retain "originally expensive" purchases.
LRA's parts pricing is outrageous. I was checking yesterday with a
UK LR dealer who quoted GBP47 (inc. air delivery) vs $387 LRA here !
Every time I check a price, this is the case.

Beware the hidden costs that SOME dealers slip in. If you want good prices on all the filters get in touch with Black Forest 4x4 in Adelaide(ex LR) dealer. For those parts and all LR parts see Suttons in Alice Springs. Always ask about the hourly rate as well, the only dealer in Adelaide is now $132/hour I've been told
