Hmmmm..........$3590 is a lot of money. I'd rather chance it without it or put it towards the interest payments on a new D4. And I wouldn't take up the Alliance (as opposed to Allianz) anyway.

Hey Troy. How many extra years and kilometres did this cover? It seems an awful lot of money for repair insurance.

My extended warranty by Allianz cost $3200 odd with GST in September 09.
It was for 3 years, coverage per new car warranty, must be service on time per the book but the K's were less than new car warranty. I will have to pull the book out of the glove box but I think it was an extra 60000km but I will check that.
Yes it is expensive but it's transferable on sale & it gives me piece of mind & really gives Mrs Jonesfam a nice feeling.

That would not include reasonable wear and tear and the company could be able to argue misuse in many cases, in which case you would have to prove there was none. That is why there are specific warranties that also cover wear and tear and allow for misuse. In general they cover more than what would be covered by statute alone and you are paying for an extension of that cover.

Oh, the other thing. Would you really want to have to pay for a court hearing every time you wanted something repaired?

My Extended Warranty 4 years with National Waranty Company ( bought it through Austral in Brisbane, Cost was only $2695. Already had Compressor and Engine coolant Temp Sensors changed problems. I say they are worth it, but that is the 'risk' of insurance.

I am sure that Allianz will put the price of theirs up given the amount of claims they have had. I concider the current price a bargain.

If you remember teh FFRR has a five year warranty from LR, even with that the last two years were with an insurance company LR just paid the premium.

thanks for the response. i got it a bit wrong yesterday. the 3 year extended warranty was with Allianz and not Alliance as stated yesterday. the price was however $3590 so has gone up a lot recently.

thanks for all the other comments.

Just done some research about Allianz extended warranty.

Provided the car is still under existing warranty - 3 extra years or 60 000 km whatever comes first.
It provides (from what I can see) the same warranty as you are getting from the LRA warranty.

    Read the pdf document.

    Looks OK to me.

    Rubbish!

The TPA, plus relevant cases provide a very protection.

And there's no need for Court (in fact those who go this route first are wasting their time and money and probably shooting themselves in the foot). If the dealer/manufacturer wont help then head straight to the ACCC!

I wrote two letters and had work done by LRA that I would estimate cost over $10K. Never went near a Court.

I decided not to get an extended warranty on my D2. I couldn't see the point if LR have a philosophy of not honouring it anyway, and if they did it would be a drama.
