    2009 Range Rover Sport - TDV6 or TDV8???

    Hi All,

I'm looking to buy my first Range Rover as I'm looking to upgrade my BMW X5. Given the current offers of discounts + 3 years free servicing, an MY09 seems the best option.

I'm not looking for options galore - just a sunroof & tow pack.

The question is, should I be looking at a TDV6 or is it worth a fuel efficiency hit and considering a TDV8?

Or on that note, should I forgo the Sport for now & look at a Disco 3 SE or HSE?

Appreciate any thoughts from those MY08 & MY09 owners as well as any others

What is the difference in price between the 6 and the 8?

I've got a 6, and I would LOVE to have the V8 but cannot justify the change-over price.

Have you driven a V8? Once you drive it you will want it and the 6 will seem very tame.

However, having said that the 6 is still an excellent unit and one you would be very familiar with if you've been getting around in a Diesel X5. Although - I am thinking "proper" Range Rover with the straight 6, and you might be talking about the "sport" with the V6........

Anyway, I wouldn't think the fuel economy is the thing that will make up your mind when choosing

    Thanks Spudboy.

It's about $10K difference in price... Yes I do get around in a diesel X5 and yes I am talking about the Sport - the Vogue is out of my price range...

I was thinking of running with a Sport for now and then upgrading to a Vogue in about 5+ years!

Depends what you want. If you want the seating and space and superb off road ability of the Disco 3 then go for that. If you want the super cool look of the Sport and you don't need the seats then that's the one you need.

    I can't afford either!

Do you need to get a new one? The prices of 2nd hand L322's have dropped significantly in the last 6 months. Then you could get the "proper" RR (perhaps I shouldn't call it that - they are all proper RRs) and you'd miss out on the big depreciation hit that you get with a new car.

Cheers Willem - I do like the look of the RRS over the Disco

I don't so much spudboy - the choice for new was more to get the 3 years free servicing and the discounts they are throwing around to shift new / demos out the lot. With those discounts, a second hand would need to be quite the deal

If you get into tdv6 sport over a D3, you pay quite a bit more, for quite a lesser car.

However, what a warm fuzzy glow you are going get driving the sport...

    Want the 8, no choice.

Take 'em for a drive, consider what you are going to use it for, cannot go wrong with either.

however - I live with the bramble rash on my D3, could I deal with bramble rash on a sport...... Just wouldn't sit right with me

    It’s actually a no brainer.

You are just wasting your money if you get a TDV6 when a D3 would be a much better buy.

If you genuinely want an RRS, then you buy the TDV8 and have loads more grunt and fun.

But as posted above, it all depends on what you intend to use it for.
