What's the engine doing?,whats it's problem?. Pat
Finally i have found a 322 in my price range...... (dont ask $$ but its what a dealer offered the owner as a trade-in). I'm picking up on monday. It is a 1 owner 04 td6 HSE with 290XXX kms and a problem with the engine - the dealer has suspeced the turbo as the pump is brand new.
It has not been taken apart for diagnosis, but it still has oil and water (seperately) so i am not convinced the engine bottom end is damaged...yet.
Its silver with a factory bar and I am looking at spending about 5k on repairs and accessories.
Likely to get list
Chip (looking abroard at the uk ones)
intercooler
3" custom exhaust
custom 17" wheels with 265/70/17 BFG KM2 (about 31" diameter) mabe larger if i can fit them.
reverse camera
rear dvd (wife says so)
faultmate msv2 extreme
air suspension emergency bypass
breathers
dual batterys
bash plates.
Dream list, which will happen in time.....
custom turbo
Barwork (front/rear/sliders)
Snorkel
extra fuel tank
rear wheel carrier
arnott airbags
2 inch air suspension lift.
I will be taking lots of pics when it arrives and post a bit of a writeup working out whats wrong.

It has trouble starting (aerostart or a petrol soaked rag gets it going) then running really rough, before it stalls.
The dealer first said fuel pump, so that was changed (the one in the rear floor), but now he says it could be the turbo. (this is a well known land rover dealer on king georges rd sydney, and it beats me why they cant properly diagnose a problem with a 7 yo rangie). The owner then said what will it cost for a completle new engine, which he was quoted 18K fitted.
The really sad thing is that the owner (who does alot of remote traveling) says he will never get another LR/RR. He says it was a briliant comfortable car, seriously let down by overcharging dealers who dont know what they are doing. I think he said somthing about a new landcruiser...
Also found out it had a new gearbox 12 months ago, so i dont have to worry about that not being serviced for 250,000kms.
On another note, this is a 1 owner car, so what extras that the car was new should it come with that may not be there? Do they have a sunroof emergency key like the p38a? He is finding the cargo blind somewhere.
How many normal keys??
Andy
He should send a complaint to LR Oz and LR UK.The turbo has nothing to do with it,sounds like no fuel pressure or no air,did it blow black smoke or white smoke when it started?.At 290K it could be as easy as a blown or delaminated turbo hose or blockage in the fuel line, again as easy as a filter. The L322 has an allen key for the sunroof,it's with the wheel lock nut socket. Pat
Andy - if you're not going to send pics to your business partner, you could at least post some pics to the forum...
I want to see if you've put a big HARDRANGE.COM sticker along each side like you did to my P38
If you can steal Erich away from his Puma project for a couple of hours, I'm sure you blokes will figure it out. Let me know what multi-vehicle L322 modules you want activated for your FaultMate and I shall "make it so", or do you just want all of them for a single L322?
Damn shame the PO is now being scared of LR/RR's, but IDGAF customer service attitude will do that.
Cheers
Paul.

Ok paul mate, here it is.
I Started looking closely at it for about half an hour today, wow what a well thought out car. The ECUs under the bonnet are in a sealed box, the air filter is massive, the oil filter is easy to access, as is the drain. The pollen filter can be changes by only undoing a few clips by hand. Heaps of room under the bonnet (more than my 1986 county!) Cool hidden compartments in the rear too.
I hate that bullbar, so does SWMBO. pity the bumper has holes underneath. I will most likely remove it and repair the holes
I found some hidden extras aswell. 2 sealed auxillary batterys hidden in the rear drivers 1/4 aswell as a redarc controller. Looks like a simple install, but dificult to get in and out.
I will do a post on rr.net about the engine problem, but i think it may just be a case of dirty fuel.
Andy
very pretty... for now
I like that bar, think it breaks up the lines at the front.
... and not a HTFU or "Harden Up" sticker in sight!
BTW: the new leather driver's seat skin arrived today for my black Rangie. I'll need to come for a drive up there again soon when you will be about.
Cheers

will put a sticker on it soon, but i should wash it first. i only had a quick squiz at it today.
I think i'll start up a thread in members rides to document the modifications, and keep this thread for repairs....
The repairs list that needs doing so far is......
engine repairs and full service
radio screen - not sat navI thought only p38s did that.....
bumper scuffs
new front fog light.
new front pas blinker
drivers seat side trim cracked
bullbar removal
deivers seat base is starting to lose its shape on the edge (leather still good though)
cd cartridge jammed.

I reckon it would still be a pretty good buy at $30k for a 6yo Rangie, even with those km's and some issue in the engine. If it is just fuel (filter, clogged injectors, whatever...) you and Erich will get it sorted soon enough.
Now, if only I could get my better half to trade in her Freelander for a L322 or RRS...
Cheers, Paul.

IT RUNS...
after changing the fuel fillter, and crank case filter (in the top of the rocker cover) It still wouldnt start, so i stripped the inlet manifold off and had a looksee. I sort-of understand how it works, now. I re-assembled it and tried cranking with atomised wd40 sprayed into the inlet manifold (before i was spraying into the MAF), which still didnt work. Tried again with a petrol rag, and it fired and started. It ran rough, blew some white smoke, then settled down. I let it get warm to bleed all the air out of the system and it starts and idles well.
It doesnt idle as smooth as it should though, and i think it may still have a dickey injector or 2. I unplugged 1 at a time (if you unplug 2 the computer goes into fault) and there was hardly anything noticable when you unplugged #1 or #5. I will be doing more checks today aswell as swapping the injectors around.
