    More like 180kph

Have to admit the TD6 is a great engine. Coming from an LS1 bommodore I thought I would get bored with the diesel power. Have had the car nearly 18 months and still love driving it..no intension to bother chipping it.

The economy is also a plus..great to have a car with decent range.

If I feel like more power...next one will be a supercharged V8

A black TDV6 D4 I'd been 'watching' in the side mirror decided he was in a hurry and kept going... he "planted it" about half way through the intersection and I'll swear there was a touch of blue smoke from all 4 tyres as they screeched and the vehicle took off along Castlelmaine St! I've never seen an AWD lose traction like that before and smoke the tyres...
I estimate his speed through the intersection was about 40-50kmh when he floored it... my opinion "performance is adequate!"

No way will it spin any let alone 4 wheels at a rolling 40-50, hell a 300kw falcon or commodore wont.......

[QUOTE=rangietragic;1718116]Can anyone tell me how the td6 performs? Before i picked mine up i looked at chipping options because all the tests i read said they were "slow" or "pedestrian" ect. but after having mine for a while now it goes fine.Ive not driven a v8 to compare it to but when you put your foot down it takes off, better than my chipped td5 disco anyway.Fuel economy is great as well. Are the v8s that much better?[/ex

OK - I've now allocated my 2005 td6 HSE L322 to daily work transport duties.
    We bought a 2007 tdv8 vogue yesterday.
It makes the td6 feel like the old fordson tractor we had 40 years ago!
The $25k that the td6 is worth really sums up its value/performance in real life terms.

    Chipping a TD6

When I first got my TD6 in 2004 (new) I thought about rechipping but never did and am so glad I did not. I have rarely towed anything larger that a 6 x 4 trailer and drive to speed limits. The auto lasted 114,000 k's. What would it do with more power?
I would certainly not recommend giving a TD6 with a GM transmission any more power.

Good advise. I would never chip mine. Glad the TD6 has more than enough power already. Had mine for 18 months and still not sick of it

Why on earth would you make those restrictions - I've had my td6 since new in 2005 with 185k on the odo - just about every trip involves lengths at 140 -180 kph, low range 4wd work through mountain tracks and I regularly tow large trailers of 3 tonnes or more. I haven't had any mechanical issues.
I had thought about chipping it but have now got an L322 tdv8 and it certainly does not need a chip. As a work truck the td6 has plenty of power.

    "sounds responsible"

Incredible!! - are you are one of those that espouse the nanny state or are you implying something else? I guess being a resident of SA you have been drawn into a false sense of security where you consider that the state through its regulations can look after every aspect of your well being - I guess you didn't see the ch7 programme last night - if you had you would have a different opinion.

    "very lucky"

What on earth does that mean? From what I've researched BMW had issues with early L322 front diffs (2202-2006) and transmissions (2002-2004). Both issues were rectified in subsequent models.
