I like the idea of placing it so top tail gate can be opened without moving the tyre.

    Man that’s excellent!

Q: Does it set the parking sensor off?

Q: What we going to do re number plate and reverse lights? Do we relocate a 2nd set of reverse lights down low out of the way and maybe something similar for the number plate? Or add them to the wheel carrier - would then need a plug which is not a biggie. Could go for the Nissan look and add a pole with a flood light.

And are you using the worst camera in the universe? Sorry couldn’t help myself….

Q1: Parking sensors dont work at the moment anyway so couldnt tell you

Q2: I am thinking ill mount the number plate in the centre of the wheel? or on the LH side on the jerry can holder (When i put it on)
Pole and a flood light wouldnt be bad, but i already have 3 on the roof rack and one under the bumper so may be an overkill hahah

and the camera, well just a phone in the dark with no flash...it was always going to be bad haha

The tyre pivot will be able to be locked in the raised position so it looks normal, then fold forward when you want to open the top only

    Brilliant work, looking good.
Sorry if I've missed it in the thread, do you have any idea of cost yet?

Not as of yet, still in the prototype phase but once all testing is done and I have created proper CAD drawings I will have a better idea.

You just have to keep in mind that there is a bit of bumper cutting involved as I will not be installing them on to anyone's cars but I am intending to supply print out templates for the cuts.

Who would also be interested in purchasing the designs and a selection of parts as a "Build your own" type thing? (would be a much cheaper option as a bit of labor is required)

    Ok another update!

Nearly completed now, I have sorted the tire pivot locking mechanism after alot of trial and error testing but it now works effortlessly with a simple push back into position and its locked.
A spring loaded retaining spring was added to the swing spindle (pics), I had to use my brain a bit to get it automatic and I landed with the orange cable wrapped around the hub and a tension spring to pull the pin towards the center (The thing you have to do when there is no space)
Number plate had to be relocated and power for the lights were sourced from the right rear tail light harness once you pull the lamp out (Easy) mounted on a bit of checker plate alloy with a bent in it.

All the unnecessary welds are now all tidied up and primed, the bearing has been lubricated and capped,
Only thing left is to add a jerry can mount and fit the cable actuator lever (latch to u and me) to open and close the thing.

    Then to be powder coated.
