Complete loss of Brakes due to Brake hose failure

    Hi All

Several months ago I lost all brakes while driving my 2007 TDV8, luckily i was going slow at the time. It turned out the left hand front brake hose had split. Quite an unnerving experience. Replaced the hose and repaired.

Two days ago same thing happened again, I heard a slight pop and pedal to floor, luckily I had already stopped.

The electric emergency brake seems to be very inconsistent and id question its ability when needed at speed.

Ive never had a brake line fail previously, and when asking around it seems to be a very rare occurrence. Could only find one other L322 Range Rover owner with the same experience on Google.

The first experience I put down to an anomaly but now I'm not so confident, and they have both failed in the same location. Pics attached.

Pretty poor show - one never hears of blown hoses these days. Were both instances at the left front, ie the replacement also blew or both original hoses?

You would think that should be a recall.....,if they were the original OEM parts

Have noticed other brands having recalls for vehicles well over 10yrs old.
    Not usually brake issues though.

I'd be replacing the rears as a matter of urgency.

The D4 service schedule states that all flexible brake hoses should be replaced every 6 years so I expect similar for the RR.

I wonder how many vehicles actually have it done.

The vehicle in question is only around 7yrs old.

With brake line valving, modern vehicles shouldn't fail if one or two lines leak fluid. Brakes particularly if front affected won't be as good, but should still pull up.

I will call our local Land Rover Dealer tommorow and let them know, maybe they will be interested.

    will be replacing rears ASAP.

I would of also thought that if the fronts fail you would at least have the rear or visa versa, but I had no brakes. The first time I was 3 is from home so drove slow and used the gears, but it was very risky. The diesel with the turbos is not like driving a regular diesel where you can use the motor to help braking, as it tends to rev too high.

I was then told by an auto trans guy you can use the electric brake as it is also an emergency brake. I tried it when the car was dropped at my home by the tow truck driver just to turn it around and the braking was vey unreliable.

From my experience I wouldnt want to be in a position that needs it, but maybe I haven't given a fair try.

I'm not aware of any brake line pressure sensors so can't see how the electronics would know that a line has dumped its fluid to close a valve to isolate it.
