12.1 volts is pretty cactus. Most of the electronics will drop out about there. Fully charged and not running you should have 12.7 and when running you should have around 13.8 to 14.
How old is the battery? If it's more than 3 or 4 years old replacing it would be a good place to start but yes, your alternator could be U/S. Not having pulled one of these ones apart I'm not sure if it could be just brushes or a voltage regulator or they have bigger problems when they stop.
