    Td6 no go

How can i tell if the alternator is kaput on my beast when I dont have access to a tester.
I'm just trying to rule out things that might be faulty.
When nrma shorted it out and we got it going, the battery light stayed on when i took it for a drive.
    Checked battery this morning, 12.1v

    Thanks

12.1 volts is pretty cactus. Most of the electronics will drop out about there. Fully charged and not running you should have 12.7 and when running you should have around 13.8 to 14.

How old is the battery? If it's more than 3 or 4 years old replacing it would be a good place to start but yes, your alternator could be U/S. Not having pulled one of these ones apart I'm not sure if it could be just brushes or a voltage regulator or they have bigger problems when they stop.

    Hi Bacicat,
Battery is only 14 months old, so it should still be good.
Am wondering if its either the alternator or the inhibitor switch.

Would you know where the inhibitor switch is?

    Thanks

Sorry, no idea where the inhibitor switch lives - or what it does. My guess if the battery is still good would have been the alternator, but what does this switch do?

    Hi Pedro,
Dont know why he didnt put meter on battery after we got it started. Its the nrma after all.
My original symptons were not engaging starter when key turned.
I did have "sport mode" on dash when i turned key on. It now has 3 amigos for L322 on dash.
I'm trying to eliminate the faults so I could pinpoint exactly where my problem is. I checked battery this morning, it still held 12.1v

Have you tried charging the battery up? At 12.1 volts, the battery is half flat, and as far as the ECU's are concerned might as well be and you will hold a lot of faults active with this low a level of charge.

Once the battery is fuly charged, clear the fault codes, and see if it starts and runs properly then. Once running you can check the alternator chage voltage.

The battery state of charge chart below is courtesy of Traxide. Tim - I hope you don't mind me posting this as I know you have on this forum many times before.

    Hi Bacicat,
Battery was fully charged when I tried to start it on saturday. I havent bothered with it since I couldnt get the starter motor to turn over.
I had power but it wouldnt engage starter to turn motor over.
Thats what I'm trying to figure out where to look.I put iid tool on it and it came up with heap of errors. Cant remember them all and I cant find where i saved them too.

Cool. If the battery has been charged and is only at 12.1 volts, it is toast. When my starter died it took the battery with it. I'd grab a new battery.
