    TD6 2002 No power

    Hello all
My TD6 is very unresponsive to pressing the throttle, and seems like the fans are running all the time.
Going up hill is hard work, and getting up to 45-50 really requires a lot of throttle.
The fuel filter under the bonnet has been changed recently as well as the crankcase breather and both air and oil filters.
I have a some turbo whistle, but have been told that is not unusual.
    Anyone have any suggestions ?
    Cheers Paul

Check the vacuum line to the turbo vac accumulator thingy (I forget what it's called) on the drivers side - the line running across the top of the engine on mine perished and I got a vacuum leak in it and the turbo didn't do squat - makes a whistle, won't go anywhere fast... The whistle is louder than usual when the turbo has no vacuum.

There's a vac line running g to it, and from there to the turbo. Pull the line off the engine and suck on it - it should hold a vacuum like a vac advance on a dizzy. If you end up sucking air, whack a new bit in and see how it goes.

Simple and cheap if that's the issue.

Fans running all the time? have you checked the coolant level, or check the concentration of the coolant, I have read that \ they sense the coolant concentration also and there is a fail safe that can put it into limp mode.

There are 2 fuel pumps on a TD6, maybe the high pressure one is failing, possibly noticeable when under load, up hills etc ,
    or
possible injector loom possibly miss firing under load they are common to go brittle with age and wiggling the connections might change the running, luckily genuine ones can be purchased for under $100

Do you have a diagnostic tool?

    Regards, Mario

Buggered Injector loom will give rough running - does it idle and rev freely in park or run rough?

Paul, Injector looms are cheap, just get one from Land Rover dealership if you find you do need one. Part number is YSB001040 $89.15

It's no good throwing parts at it unnecessarily. So get it diagnosed before you waste any money.

maybe Check your turbo inter-cooler hoses

Try the simple things 1st like Homestar suggested

Yeah, get it diagnosed first before spending any money. It's likely to be something small - intercooler hoses was a good suggestion from Mario too - they can become brittle or rub through. They are a bit of a pain to get at, but can be removed for inspection with only the removal of the front stone guard. There is a small clip that slides across the end Boss that holds them to the pipe and an x ring seal inside, so no screwdrivers etc required, just your fingers.

A split intercooler hose will not bring up a fault, small hissing sound maybe and a small amount of black smoke.
mine split on the inside of the top hose going to the egr valve, couldnt see or feel it at first until i gave the hose a good squeeze and felt it buckle

You can buy them for that at Land Rover dealership. I found it cheaper this time from local dealer than what i could buy it from my overseas wholesale suppliers.
ULR in Melbourne., they also will freight it for you, but Try your Land Rover dealership in Perth, it should be the same price..
    Cheers, Mario
