New Discovery 5 owner - help with towing hitch please

Hello Land Rover owners. I have just taken delivery of a Discovery 5 S 2025 model so I am new to the forum and new to Land Rovers.
I have a semi off road caravan with a DO35 coupling with a hitch height of 550-600mm. The hitch that was supplied with the car is not going to be suitable because there isn't enough clearance for the DO35. And it doesn't look like it can be used reversed because of the gusseting. Land Rover are quite specific about their recommended dimensions of the hitch with a maximum length of 165mm and a minimum height of 25mm. Land Rover iGuide Online
It's not clear to me what the height means. Does it mean that the ball height can be lower but no higher or is it the other way around? And since I am using a DO35 coupling rather than a 50mm ball where is the height measurement taken from?
How do all you people out there get around their hitch problems? Is there a Hayman Reese or other brand of hitch that can be used, and can they be used in the reversed position?

I think it will depend on your van, we have a 2025 D5 and a viscount wild shark semi off road. Our hitch was a little low and I machined a bit of round 20 mm thick to lift the DO 35 pin up and still had a enough thread to secure it and the van sits pretty level.

Be careful with playing with tow hitch heights as if you have independent suspension, bogie only, dchanging the tow hitch height will affect the loading on the axle groups as they are not true load sharing.
I set ours up on our own weighbridge and found that tow bar height also had a bearing on tow ball down weight.

With a tow ball weight of 260 kgs it increased rear axle weigh by 330 kgs
An option might be to get the van manufacturer to put the van hitch lower on the A frame if possible.
    Just my 2 bobs worth.

how much did the tow ball height effect the weight distribution, if only a small increase in height removes a significant bit of weight of the ball in t would be helpful for me

Currently in Kununurra, have a bug in laptop but have a spreadsheet on all weights. Will get it fixed Monday with luck and if you send p.m. me your email I will send the lot to you, as I have weights as I loaded the van.
    Regards Lindsay
