    Anyone had them done?
Anyone's brothers boyfriends hairdresser had them done?

Anyone have ideas on preventative maintenance WHILE having them done?

    sigh..

yes its still drivable,( and for a supposed head gasket issue, it starts and idles cold fine..) probably for days on end- without the van on the back....

If not already commited to a replacement engine, it might be worthwhile having the inlet manifolds removed and the head bolts re-torqued. Being stretch bolts and if only a very light leak then the cost of retorquing might be worthwhile. It's what I would do myself but perhaps not not economical paying for a workshop to do the work.

Saab used to have retorquing their stretch head bolts as a service item every 200K kms IIRC but that was without the gasket leaking.

Torqued to a value then further by degrees.

I suspected that you would have already moved on the repair.

That doesn't look too bad a place to be camped for 6 weeks.
