For under twenty bucks, you can buy a drip tray.
Hey Everyone,
I am a newbie on this forum but hope someone out there can share some wisdom with me.
I have a 2016 L494 SDV8 HSE with an oil leak that appears to be around the infamous O rings that I have read about. Not a bad one as yet and there is just a few drips appearing on the driveway (may have to start parking on my neighbours driveway till fixed
I have spoken to a local specialist in Canberra that suggested that the leak is indeed from the "O" rings but it's a $6K repair. This number seems excessive for the diagnosed fault, but as I don't have any other options for second opinions, I thought that I would ask here.
Does anyone have any guidance opinion etc to help?
Thanks heaps in advance.
Dave

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
Replace the o-rings with Viton BS611 - 2 of.
I understand that access to the pipe fitting is reasonable once the panel under the wipers is removed, but I only have experience with the L322 where removal of the cabin air intake (remove 2 nuts) is all that is necessary.
The oil cooler gaskets may not be far behind the o-rings in leaking but that's a bigger task.

LR don't list the o-rings as spare parts, only the whole feed pipe that supplies both turbos which takes quite a lot of work to replace. Perhaps the workshop has quoted to replace that pipe and possibly the oil cooler too.
Is there another workshop that will replace just the o-rings if you source them yourself? Any bearing outlet would be able to get Viton BS611 and you can most likely buy them online from ebay or a bearing/seal outlet. Standard o-rings won't survive the heat as nearly as well as Viton (Viton 75 is the common compound for high tempertures).

Just for the record... JC recommends the replacement of the whole cooler.. which I didnt do the first time,, then had to do the second...
There is a bit in the V that requires replacing after 8 years...
personally, if you plan on keeping it forever,, I'd be getting the rad inspected and replacing all the hoses, the small ones especially..

My cooling system concern was with all the plastic fittings in the V, some of which were found to be very brittle during replacement after 12 years even though the engine cover hadn't been fitted since 18K kms.

As previously mentioned but worth repeating...
The SDV8 rad has very fine tubes, and after 8 years of LR servicing they block up... or at least mine did.
After trying to look through it I have no idea how mine lasted as long as it did....

Well today my INDY said that I have a rear oil seal Leak. I was aware of a slow leak and have yet to identify if in fact it is the rear oil seal. Haven't had a quote to replace, and leak is pretty slow but if it needs doing I will do. Do any members know if the SDV8 with 215 k's is prone to a rear oil seal leak? I would think the repair is a gearbox out or pull back , not sure if the sump needs to come off as I haven't seen and engine view as yet.
Any info would help as I am off to W.A with van in 5 weeks.
