The VW Multivan has dash mounted gearshift and I think was available in manual. (Overseas anyway)
6 speed manual dash mounted right here, via 3 x bowden cables .

I will be stunned if there’s a manual option. But honestly apart from a sense of fun or just personal preference I can’t think of a single solid reason why manual should be an option in this new vehicle. Technology has evolved and a really good auto box is a better fit when you have computerised traction control and systems trying to optimise fuel economy etc.
My Golf GTD was specially ordered as a manual and I waited 8 months for it to be built and shipped. It’s a hoot to drive. My teenage son is begging me not to trade it in because he wants to learn to drive in it and perhaps end up owning it. So don’t get the impression that I’m anti-manual.
It’s just how things are going – seems likely that most city vehicles will be electric with a fixed gear ratio within a generation.
I'll be stunned if there is not a manual option !
I have an extremely modified and extremely capable RRC and its auto, wouldn't put a manual in if you paid me, ive had a manual and i can confidently say a good modern auto has only 1 drawback, push starting. Having dual batterys + solar, this has never bothered me.
However having said that I understand the reasons why some people prefer manual and respect that.
I think what you're trying to say with those hashtags is that all new defender buyers will be only interested in having one for the image, I think that's an interesting statement considering the variety of well respected members on here that have expressed interest in purchasing one.
It's interesting but the latest studies actually show that people are less likely to buy to impress people, especially millennials. This is why car companies including JLR are looking at rental services or subscription services.

Your correct, however again notice my comments on when the weight is applied to the section that is raised I would say it will compress to a flat floor or pretty close?
When we camp our double blow up mattress actually has a higher section where our head goes.
I agree though completely flat is better some people I know even sleep without pillows for this reason.
Does anyone actually have any real world experience of sleeping in the back of a Discovery 5?
Maybe with certain versions of the defender being slightly more utilitarian if they use similar seats with less padding maybe they will fold 100% flat.
