I reckon this vehicle was the PHEV, with the small exhaust on the rear left side and the small fuel tank on the rear right side and the batteries in the flat sections under the middle. We saw this rear muffler/fuel arrangement on PHEV mules in the Moab pics. The other vehicle had a muffler that went all the way across the rear and had an exhaust outlet on each side.

In an ICE variant the fuel would be in the centre instead of batteries. Nice low centre of gravity but hard to estimate capacity – and heck they might not need that centre resonator or whatever it is in the exhaust system, creating even more space for fuel.

Yeah not sure on that either , maybe if left and right recovery points are revealed centre could be removed, See the hole above the winch with bolt holes either side? Looks almost like a fairlead spot, but could be way off. Would a winch be suitable in that spot?

Are we expecting anything other than mild hybrid as a option at launch?

I think you are on the money with one tank being for hybrid, other 2 fuel.

If picking non hybrid, will it be two tanks?

“Mild” hybrid has a tiny electric motor with a tiny battery and otherwise looks just like an ICE-only car. PHEV has big batteries, a much larger electric motor, a smaller ICE and a small fuel tank. We saw PHEV tested at Moab and elsewhere, with the rear bumper section shared by muffler and the fuel tank.

Not 100% sure what you’re saying here. I think the hybrid has a small fuel tank under the rear bumper and big battery packs under the belly. I think the ICE (and MHEV) has a full width muffler at the rear and lots of fuel under the belly.

Has there been any indication that they'd have a range-extender electric? Would just being hybrid require the big yellow electric vehicle windscreen sticker that we saw on the Moab vehicles?

Maybe in Aust but overseas they also had straight 6 petrol and various V8 petrol engines.

Only in SA did they get the BMW 2.8 petrol 6 not Europe, V8 in other parts of Africa too.

My guess is that mild hybrid, typically at 48V, would not require the sticker. PHEV, probably in the hundreds of volts, presents a shock risk especially on an as-yet unproven vehicle and might warrant a sticker.
