If you don't like JLR or the new defender or their marketing techniques maybe its time to go join a nissan or toyota forum.

Negativity breeds negativity, lets keep things positive here.
I am on a Toyota forum too...

If a Land Rover lover can’t even make a negative comment on an upcoming LR product, who can?

We're talking about it, so the social media marketing is working fine.
One of my sons done social media marketing for a living. It's a big deal.

IMO a big mistake, each model should look different,as they always did.

I am sure the buyer of a $265K plus vehicle won't be happy if it looks very similar to another vehicle of the same brand that is half the price.

And yes they are definitely targeting the same type of market.

Fronts give vehicles a brand image, so when you see any model you know the brand. Look at Mazda, Toyota, Hyundai etc.
Within LR, there are similarities between all Rangies and between the Discoverys. I expect all the Defenders will have a similar brand image. McGovern says the Defenders image will be 'durable', whatever that means.

Theres new car money, its for spending on a new car.
My old cars get money spent on them whenever its required. I'll always have at least one old LandRover but never again a new one.

the are ALL the same to me, I have no idea what model is what, and I don't care . Im only interested in a utilitarian workhorse . I don't want an elitist pose mobile which ALL the JLR blobs are to me.

    Won’t be retro...

I think the front appearance similarity, and Range Rover grouping (Sport, Evoque, Velar) is clever. Some owners of a D5 or L494 etc will take delight feeling like they have a Range Rover or a car that looks like a Range Rover, without the Full Fat price tag. Most buyers are primarily focused on appearance or perception and luxury or comfort. All these Land Rovers look a lot less capable off road than they actually are. They are surprisingly capable.

I think the Defender will target different buyers and so it won’t look like a Range Rover. Buyers who want a vehicle that looks a lot more capable. I doubt it will look like a D4, but will be boxy in appearance. It will have options for those that like a bit more Lux too.

The capability comparison between the new Defender and other models will be interesting.

I’m hoping it also differentiates in mechanical ways like a broad, single range auto trans. If the povo pack option is in the $70k price range it will take customers from other brands without affecting sales on their other products too much.
