Didn’t LR release a special batch of V8 Defenders recently... [emoji15]
V8s might survive for a while if they can meet the emissions rules and provide reasonable economy, but the trend is clear towards smaller, more efficient engines.
In the City or Suburbia those little fuel efficiant "Buzz boxes" are just fine But in the REAL world of 4WD use on a farm, mine site or even a grey nomad towing a brick around they are pretty much useless.
IF the smaller engines are a better workhorse then why doesn't the trucking industry use them?
Looking at new Defender dash shifter practicality.
Was driving a VW transporter recently and I was surprised at how much I liked the dash shifter. (Similar to Last pic)
Was also looking at bowler buldog and noticed the positioning of shifter. Im guessing its close to wheel so that you can smash it and two hands back on the wheel. Also has motec digital dash.(1st and second pic)
Works v8 also has shifter higher and closer to dash/steering wheel then regular auto positioning.(4th pic)
New defender seems to have shifer in similar spot, just a little higher to allow middle seating. So before I get in any way interested in a new LR
I spent some time perusing D5 and newer Ranga sections of AULRO and now I’m just a little skeered.
Let’s say one can purchase a LR2020 for somewhere in the 80s
That kinda okay ish
But I’m guessing by the new sections LR doesn’t offer fixed price servicing for warranty period?
$400 wiper replacements $3k brake sets at 33oookm
Yeeeouch
I thought boating was throwing $100 notes into a hole in the ocean .... I get the whole you gotta pay to play but perhaps I’ll just wait till the LR2020 proves itself and the community has worked out how to self service it and Bell Auto has worked out how to read and clear codes (a carton says IID tool won’t work)
Just back of the envelope calculations Service Costs on my 2.4tdci 130 I’ve now owned nearly 3 years:
IID tool
Racer filter with pump $400
Change from $1200 on tyres
Oils and Filters $500
Bought a $35 clutch master cylinder when clutch pedal got flaky on a 2000km tow trip, clutch came good - new master still in toolbox....
That’s it?
Anyone of you D4 owners have a whole life cost (excluding fuel/ modifications/ interest) for say first 3 years of ownership of a reliable D4 (ie excluding major mechanical failure units - I know LR made a few good ones)
This is acknowledging if I bought new I’d keep it dealer serviced for the 3 minute warranty LR offer.
Steve
Oops forgot to add in a set of front pads - $83
And it’s a Parker/ Racor Filter not a racer ;)
