I would freak'n hope that is a MWB model so a LWB dual cab could have a reasonable length tray out the back...

Don't you like an external area to fit a carton into?

Yeah, I would have to say a MWB dual cab would be next to useless. At least as a wagon you have the whole area up to the back of the front seats as a load space. with DC config on that wheel base your carrying capacity is halved with no flexibility. Single cab, yes, dual cab no. Dual cab has to be on a LWB for sure.

Oh, and every D5 owner over 6' would have smacked their forehead on the tailgate at least once...............

The new Def will be more (god forbid!) Prado-like re the rear door. Pluses and minuses. It would be good if like the Prado, the rear glass opens for quick access.
I think they solved the issue of access whilst still retaining seat with the D5, its pretty underrated imo..I have a RRC so love the rear cargo area seat as much as anyone else, but i admit its also a pain.

Also talks about pricing, I tend to agree to a degree however, when you add all the luxurys, its buyers choice so they shouldn't complain the price goes up (as you can leave it around 80k driveaway if you want to if really want to with air susp and low range as recently shown on this thread). If you opt for top of the range evertything you essentially end up with a 4x4 that is arguably better than anything else currently as an ALL terrain vehicle, so the price is fair imo at both ends of the spectrum.

I imagine based on recent comments by JLRA they will be simplifying the offer with new models after new Disco Sport, so maybe it will be less confusing with the new Defender, I believe most people pay more than the need to with D5s just due to the fact they don't know they can spec them so low whilst still retaining the gear you need.

There have been concept utes with trays that extend out from the vehicle for extra load space. Additionally when I was in Hawaii a few weeks ago I am sure I saw a poster for a big pickup (maybe a Silverado or something in that vein) which boasted having an extendable tray. I can’t seem to find anything on it though.

There has been talk of D5 prices above. Any specification of new SD6 S with the lane departure warning kit is over 100k on the road. I did a search on Carsales and the cheapest bare bones SD6 S model (so baseline air suspended low range box D5 with none of the safety and other fun stuff that many would want) is over $93,000 Drive Away in white. Very quickly the price rockets up with any options or warranty extensions.

    Cheers

Assuming the New Defender is a closely similar weight to a.D5 then the little blown 2.0 petrol will be a relatively thirsty little beast.

Here the diesel 2.0 version of Ingenium does pretty well in MPG (although knocked.as not best in class for MPG or harshness. I saw some LR videos on the Ingenium and thought it must be the second coming. Having said that I will take a bit worse economy and a bit more.sound and noise as a trade for LONG life...but who knows.

Defender will be heavier than Disco Sport, especially with some steel work so expect the 2.0 ingeniuous diesel to use more than the DS.

    Cheers

Speaking of engines and the new Defender. There is an anti-diesel movement in Europe. Australia hasn’t followed suit (yet) but probably will eventually. If one was to purchase a new Defender with 5-10 year ownership in mind, in relation to resale value what would you go for? Petrol or Diesel? You could argue that diesel is better value but it will have ad blue, egr, etc and modern petrols are pretty efficient.... Hmm Won’t be retro...

80k 5year warranty driveaway, dealer confirmed in writing, see previous post a few days ago, still far less then what people spend on 79s and 200s to keep up with Landies Won’t be retro...
