And you can get them for around that, they have price points for most budgets, and for those that want a bare bones tourer a coil version for less, i posted very clearly how much they are, and you keep saying 100k, if you want all the extra gadgets that some people are very concerned about four by fours having you have to pay for them.

Last year they started at $66+ onroads
This year $70+onroads, air susp is a few grand more if thats what you want.

Lets not forget ultra 4 cars are not air suspended, neither are the bowlers and and are real offroaders with coil independant susp.

Bowler bulldogs borrow some of the RRS susp gear I believe, which is also imagine pretty similar to the discovery 5.

Seriously though mate, all jokes asside, if Hiluxs are your fancy(and they are great cars for work), great, I prefer something a little more special that has more parts, more features and takes more maintenance, I wouldn't have it any other way.

But lets not get this into another i love my toyota because they are so reliable and unbreakable marathon, that's not why this thread is here.

Public forum....and threads go off topic every day

Don’t reckon I noticed any hi-luxs certainly don’t look out for them. did spot three or four defers. Oh I don’t really do the wave thing when I see another defer when I’m in my defer...if they wave I give a little one back otherwise I don’t initiate.

Hi-lux’s ain’t my fancy, I happen to have one as a company car, I asked for and Land Rover but sadly Land Rover don’t have an option and even if Land Rover do release a new model that happens to have a tray you won’t see companies falling over themselves replacing their fleets with the green oval.

Was thinking about the D5 today and every time I see one I like it that little bit more.. where we lived there seems to be more D5 getting around then even Range Rover sports now. And there was a ton of them before.

I like the D5 in black and gunmetal grey so far.

Speaking of rear doors haha.

And I remember the D4 everyone absolutely hating the rear door.
Comparing the D4 and D5 rear door the D4 rear door is actually a much more extreme design than the D5.

I have to say that with the dark-colored D5's the rear door and number plate is actually growing on me even without the centring modification. I'm surprised how quickly this is happening to me.

Scary: without going too far off topic I have some friends that want to get a Discovery and they looking at the Discovery 3 would you suggest that they get a Discovery 3 with under 100000 k's or pay a little bit more for a Discovery 4 with low ks looking at the 20-30k mark.

I didnt say I drove a fender all landrovers are special, this is not a defender owners thread, its a thread about those interested about the new defender, which im guessing is why your here?

JLR dont target tradies, they are more the leisure, luxury and adventure market.

Thats what makes Landies special, not every man and his dog is driving them.

Companies cant afford JLR vehicles for their fleet generally speaking because they want Bare Bones cheap vehicles. And thats simply not JLRs target.

The bare bones D5 is probably the only exception currently, it is starting to get used in a lot of different work applications by governments and departments around the world.

It would actually make a great fleet vehicle for difficult access sites large internal space needing scenarios.. especially the commercial version which drops the back seats and the rear windows and adds a cargo barrier etc.

Safe comfortable good looking spacious capable what tradie wouldn't want one.

I would say that given that the Defender is going to be more than likely more durable then the D5 it too will start to get used in the commercial sector.

But again I don't believe that's Land Rovers main Target

I think from memory they are selling around 600,000 vehicles per year so doing pretty well.

Based on the excitement of the American dealers regarding the new Defender and comparing it to how well the Jeep Wrangler has done I would say that if JLR can get through this brexit drama and China sales slump and bring out this mystical Defender the sales will go through the roof not just in defender sales but also the flow on effect to the nameplates.

Mate I love the enthusiasm truly, but I have been offroad too much to out up with independent suspension without stimulated live axles that air suspension at least provides to a significant extent. You might as well buy a Pajero and have its reliability if you dont opt for air suspension.

If you can get an air suspended D5 for $77 on the road that's not too bad value wise assuming they have a decent powerplant at that price. I haven't looked at them much because to my eye they are aweful visually. Near the D4 as you posted above they look like a toad or a Hyundai. Even in rescue drag they are not much better. Beauty is in the eye though.

Just had a quick scan of the thread and not much talk about retro v non retro....in fact at the moment it’s nearly a D5 thread.

Iconic?? Well a defender is only an icon within defender ownership. Pretty sure these days the iconic wave is across plenty of parts of the community. Farmers come to mind and they have been doing to longer than defer owners, the grey nomads, truck drivers.

So back to the theme of the thread......I’m hoping it’s not retro.

But I highly doubt I’ll be buying one, although if the roof can be cut and there is a long wheel base wagon.....

Did you hear the rumour that JLR may have teamed up with a company to provide a factory pop top?

Long wheelbase wagon, well 50% of the mules are just that.

You cant have the wheelbase too long or it effects ramp over, and also front/rear overhang needs to be minimised in a proper offroader, looks like it should be better that current defender and best in class in both regards
