We can only hope, its up to 'others',in their court,so to speak.

I will carry on with 'On TOPIC',as the mods have asked for.

    Hopefully others will as well.

And i was done, with it,but as you can see, others have restarted it,and had a crack as well.

Exactly what the mods asked not to do.

I thought we (others) were discussing engine options/choices/wants, well thats what i was discussing, not having a crack, and pointing out that a petrol v8 is nowadays a viable option due to available power and economy, and if the new defender had a driveline combo like the y62, i would be all over it, subject to cost.

Not sure what the price difference is between petrol and Deisel down south , but Petrol is 10c cheaper up here. Main reason I still use my RRC as a daily driver and haven't forked out for another diesel car. = plus I always love the sound of a V8 , altho I still love getting the XR ute out the garage for a sunday fang.

    Cheers Ean

It would be between 10-20c difference here too.
Will be interesting to see what engine choice they come up with.
Small diesel, larger diesel, v8 petrol, auto or manual would be a great spread.

From where I sit , if L/R don't offer some well priced , well optioned models in Australia , they will loose most of what little market they have here.

I wont be buying any of the current crop of L/R models and if the Defender doesn't come with some good options / pricing then when our D3 gets replaced it will be with another brand.

I cant see L/R doing it the way there current approach to the market is , but hopefully they will with the new defender.

    Cheers Ean

Now i know i keep harping on about the patrol, but when it was first introduced here, it was from memory mid $80k mark for a Ti, sales were crap, who wants a large petrol 4x4, so after a couple of years, the price dropped dramatically, we paid $67k new for a whole lot of car, even toyota diehards have jumped ship, for the reasons of its such a better deal and better car for the dollar.
It now outsells the 200 everywhere in the world, except here, people can't let go of the whole diesel thing.
Land rover better be aware of this, if they want to make sales here, keep it reasonably priced, stay well under the toyota offerings.

No,wasn't referring to you or your posts at all, they are fine, good info, and i recently had a good look at a Y62,and they are a good bus,but SWMBO thinks its a bit 'big'

It was the post "26 posts back" that i was referring to.

You are 100% correct,so many less things to go wrong on the petrol.

Late model diesels are very complicated(no matter what brand) and high maintenance.

    All good.

Its at least 10c a litre cheaper here, often 20c,or more.

I don't keep a good eye on it,and it changes every few days.

That 12l/100 is very good for the size of the vehicle, another poster on here has one and says similar.A mates Sahara diesel uses about 13l/100 around town.

But fuel isn't everything, there is repairs/maintenance costs, where i presume the petrol is better.
Depreciation comes into it as well, and can be quite a substantial amount of money on a new vehicle particularly over the first 5yrs or so.

The other issue is for remote area travel, which we do a bit of,i don't think petrol can be stored in the vehicle?
    But i could be wrong?

    Damm,we are off topic again

The next Defender will be Hybrid. It will be economical and bridge the 5 year gap to full EV. But if the purchase price is not below 80k it won’t do well.

Get your Petrol V8’s now fellas because in 5 years they will no longer be for sale and wont be allowed to enter most cities in the world. Neither will diesels.

Climate change shock is about to really bite

Think I read that from next year all LRs will include a hybrid option, but petrol and diesel versions will still be available, so don't panic - it will be all good.
