JLR’s cred as a 4x4 manufacturer is entirely dependent on Defender.

Their cred as an innovative, high tech, high end, city car maker is not in doubt at all and EVs are central to this.

Whether they can successfully marry the two and not just be a 100% Toorak tractor maker is the question IMO.

Its great to see iPace EV doing so well...hopefully it bodes well and the tech can be deployed in a real off roader.

The whole debate between retro and modern is just nonsense. It’s just a matter of good design.

i don’t remember Mercedes Benz procrastinating with years of camo and spin. They just proudly launched the new G Wagen.
Talking about something isn't nessesarily judging is it?

Final Judgment is saying i think its rubbish and wont get 1 or its perfect and i will get 1.

I think the article was very fairly written, that we can't judge the new Defender off rumours and mules that are designed to deceive either way.

Sitting on the fence is undecided judgement, wasnt that his point?

Good point about the g wagon, i thing different companies have different marketing techniques it seems and JLR certainly is getting a ton of press and creating anticipation it seems, working for me Won’t be retro.....and JLR could have released the Defender a few years ago if it wasnt for MLA (Mild hybrid/hybrid/fully electric) future proofing and wanting to get the looks right for fans based on concept feedback.

In terms of retro in the American defender video the lady says something like when people look at it they will say, "that's the new Defender, and the wait is worth it you wont be disapointed".. so that's a positive I guess it will just look like a modernized defender but will not be the same shape gwagon style with upgraded interior and driveline..And the JLR is on record as saying it "will leave the gwagon in the shade" and "have driven on and offroad against competitors and its sensatiinal", Them are fightn words and talking a big talk. But for me proof will be in tasting the pudding.

Obviously. Whats the point of writing an article about it?

Agreed, however nearly everything they build under the Landrover side of things currently does as well offroad as it does on, and usually performs best in class.

I think that has always been their aim, and to stay one step ahead.

The defender will no doubt be no different, they will try to be better than everything else out there in its class.

One things for sure I certainly would not want the job of building the new Defender, it would have to be one of the hardest jobs in the Automotive world right now.

Balancing durability/safety/performance/sustainsbility/ On road and Off-Road capability/ attracting new buyers to the defender brand/ keeping most current Defender owners on side.

Hats off to JLR imo from what I have seen so far they are ticking a lot of boxes.

They’re ticking all the SUV boxes. But that’s all so far.

I'm not sure if the I pace runs MLA, it could be that be defender is the first to run that.
I believe JLR are making their own batteries and electric drive units in UK operational by 2020

Yes, I remember reading somewhere about JLR building an electrical factory in the UK to supply its vehicles.

I guess, but SUV is pretty broad.

I guess the CEO of JLR saying it is sensational against the competition on and off road is something.

Something less extravagantWon’t be retro..., as a CEO making massive claims if you are found to be lying or deliberately misleading investors or the public it has big consequences these days.
